Italy with kids and covid

I’ve read it over and over in a bunch of sources and can’t figure out what I need to do for getting into Italy with my kids (4, 6, 7, 9). Do I need to book official Covid travel pcr’s for the 3 older kids a couple of days in advance of departure??

DH and I have had our boosters last Dec. That’s recent enough right for our vaccine certs to be accepted?

And does anyone know what it’s like there now in terms of mask wearing? Just curious how uptight things are there now that we’ve gotten used to normal life again here in the UK.

I don't know about pcrs but masks are mandatory on public transport but hardly anywhere else. Where I am quite a few people wear them in shops but not all - and now it's hot so more people are abandoning them.

Have you got your digital vaccine certificates? They will have an expiry date based on the date of your latest dose (valid for 270 days after I believe) so seeing the barcode and expiry date on it should help feel secure with that.

I’d take FFP2 masks for you and the 3 older children. You’ll need them for any kind of public transport (including taxis) and possibly for the flight there.
Depending on what you are planning on doing while there you may need them at other times too.

Don't worry about bringing loads of ffp2 masks as they are easy to buy here.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/05/2022 09:25

They may be cheaper there too.

We just travelled to Italy over Easter break. My 7 year old had had covid in Jan so I got a letter from the GP confirming this which meant we did not need a PCR for her. The rest of us had our covid passes on our phones which I advise you 'update' to make sure the validity covers your travel. Just download them again that's all.

In Italy they checked nothing at the airports on arrival but were strict on trains where our passes were checked and we had to wear FFP2 masks through train journeys and indoors (shop/hotel/churches/tourist venues). Outdoors it's all relaxed.

It was quite busy in Easter so will be even more now.

The expiry date of your vaccine certificate is based on when the certificate was generated, not on when your vaccine was. Currently there is no expiry on the booster.

Italy says PCR or LFT for age 6+ if not vaccinated so you could use the cheaper LFTs for them

The rules were relaxed on 1st May - you need them for transport, cinema and some concerts now.

axolotlfloof · 21/05/2022 11:03

Not fully vaxed need lfts just before you go.
Fully vaxed need vaccine certs. That's it.

Therealpink · 22/05/2022 07:23

@axolotlfloof what proof can you give with any lft?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 22/05/2022 07:31

You have to pay for private LFTs and they give you a proof of negative test

Geamhradh · 22/05/2022 07:40

Here's the English information copied over from the It

Posted too soon.

C&P from Italian govt travel guidelines:

Minors
a) children up to 6 years are exempt from the test (PCR or antigen rapid)
b) minors from 6 to 17 years old must produce certification of a negative test (PCR or antigen rapid) if they are not in possession of a certificate of complete vaccination or recovery from covid-19. They are not required to be isolated if they accompany a parent/adult in possession of a vaccination or recovery certificate.

Restrictive measures on the Italian territory

As of 1 May 2022, the presentation of the Covid-19 certificate/green pass is no longer required in order to access public services and activities and urban transport.

From 1 May to 15 June 2022 the requirement to use the ffp2 mask still applies on public transport, during shows open to the public that take place indoors in theatres, concert halls, cinemas, entertainment venues and live music and in other similar venues, during indoor sporting events and competitions. It is also advisable to wear the mask in all public indoor places or places open to the public.

Also agree with pp- if you need ffp2s for anything, get them here. 75c each for the ones I get, or a box of 10 for €4,50.

Hopefully not to be needed for much longer!

catwomando · 22/05/2022 07:55

Hi @Therealpink I'm in Italy right now.

Masks worn on public transport and the Vatican abs big attractions. But not in shops or restaurants.

We had to attach our covid passes to our flight booking BA) before check in.

I've no idea re covid and the kids.

It's lovely and hot here ☺️

Therealpink · 22/05/2022 07:23

@axolotlfloof what proof can you give with any lft?

It needs to be a purchased "fit2fly" or similar lft test.
They post you the test, you do it in the correct time frame before departure. You upload a photo of your test and they email you the certificate.
Approx £10-15 per person.

Therealpink · 22/05/2022 10:18

Thanks all! Very helpful. I get it now.
