What to do about this bloody awful stomach pain?!

I’ve had really bad stomach pain the last 2/3 days. I have no appendix as far as I’m aware, and I am due on my period within the next 1-2 weeks but I never usually get pain this bad beforehand, only usually mild cramps 1-2 days before it starts.

I have a lot of Gastro and Gynae issues so whenever there is an issue with my stomach the GP doesn’t even entertain trying to sort it out because they just say it’s too complex for them and there’s nothing else they can do.

We don’t have an urgent care centre nearby and the only one that is quite far away is only by appointments allocated by 111 and they don’t do any tests like bloods etc, so I’ve been sent there before and it was a complete waste of time, they couldn’t do anything to diagnose what was wrong and I ended up being sent to A&E anyway.

What the hell can I do about this?! I don’t want to turn up to hospital and waste their time for a stomach ache but I’m almost in tears with how bad it is and it’s the kind of pain that you can’t distract yourself from either (I’m literally laying in bed and keep having to move around because it’s so bad)

NO chance of being pregnant either - haven’t had a partner since before COVID-19.

I think A&E. That much pain is not normal xx

Can you call 111 and get their advice- a nurse can do a call back and they can book you in to urgent care. My nurse friend always says that you should never see it as a waste of time- being told you're ok is a good result and not a problem!

Get checked for ovarian cyst. Is the pain to one side?
If it's a cyst, pain could be rupture or torsion. If rupture should ease after a few days but keep an eye on your temp in case of infection - that would be a hospital admission.
Otherwise- see your GP and get them to investigate properly on ncluding ultrasound

I have no appendix as far as I’m aware.

So you've had your appendix removed, yes? It's not clear from what you wrote.

If you have a lot of gastro and gynae issues is it likely to relate to one of them?

Could it be trapped wind? That can be incredibly painful, as can constipation. Have you had a BM recently? Have you taken something that would help with wind, such as Deflatine?

If you've been rolling around in agony for 2-3 days I can't understand why you haven't sought urgent care. A call to 111 would be appropriate if you've taken all other reasonable action, such as taking OTC medications.

I don't know your history, but the pain level is recognisable.

Frazzledmummy123 · 20/05/2022 09:44

I am not a medical professional however 2 things that came to mind were:
Painful ovulation (believe me, that can be very painful!). Does it feel like menstrual cramps but an ongoing ache that doesn't ease at all?)
or
A kidney stone (this is more pain to your side as well as stomach but can be VERY sore). My husband had a stone come down and didnt know why his stomach was so sore as he had never felt pain like it before.

It could be absolutely anything so I'd seek medical advice. If you are in pain they'll have to treat you, even if just giving you strong painkillers

Go and get checked properly for the acute pain, only a proper medical setting (such as urgent care/A&E) can rule out anything serious that requires intervention.

One line of investigation you might want to research if nothing comes up is bowel related issues. Constipation in particular isn’t always obvious (matter can move around a blockage - that could be anywhere in a very long system - that is sitting there aggravating your bowel and causing issues. Loose bowels are no reassurance of lack of constipation because of the same reason of matter moving around blockages) but can cause so much pain and discomfort until it’s properly addressed. At the very least, there’s not much damage can be done by regimes to help clear and maintain bowel health.

disclaimer - I’m not a HCP but worked with some very passionate gastro doctors who are annoyingly right about how many problems are linked to constipation.

Sorry you are in this position OP, the thing that stands out for me though is the fact your GP has dismissed you so easily, it is lazy, unprofessional and uneithical.

It looks like you will have to find a solution/treatment for yourself. Flowers
