To feel this is an odd request

In a high street shop today I overhear a middle aged man ask a man covering the changing rooms if there's any female staff about as he wants a woman to measure him up as he's transitioning. The guy said he wasn't sure and couldn't leave the changing rooms. I then hear him approach a young female member of staff and request this, she says she's not sure snd will ask her manager if they can.
The store is Primark do not exactly offering a made to measure service anyway.
He might be right at the start of transitioning but there was no sign of anything he just looked like a normal bloke. The poor girl looked mortified.
AIBU in thinking just try a load of sizes on and see what fits, he'll soon realise in womens clothes no two shops sizes are the same anyway! Grin

He should measure his waist, chest and so on at home and take a note of it to the shops as well as look online to see which Primark sizes might be best for him. He could take a tape measure with him to measure clothes at the to shop.

I would question whether he needs to be measured in the shop at all.

Georgeskitchen · 19/05/2022 19:58

Sounds like a perv trying to get his rocks off with a young woman touching him. Pretty sure only high end boutiques would offer a measuring service . Doubt its a thing in Primarni.

Notimeforaname · 19/05/2022 20:29

"Sorry, we dont provide a fitting service " was all it would have taken.

Staynow · 19/05/2022 20:34

Obviously fucking clueless about women's clothes. Who's ever been measured up for anything apart from possibly a bra. Sounds like a whole lot of attention seeking to me. He'll be in the changing rooms with a bag of tampons just in case he can help any 'period havers' out.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/05/2022 20:36

An obvious perv

StuckInTheMiddleOfNowhere · 19/05/2022 20:37

I would have said ' sorry we dont measure but feel free to try a few sizes'

Onlyforcake · 19/05/2022 20:38

Of course that happened.

Barrawarra · 19/05/2022 20:40

Bleugh. Cosplaying at his idea of being a woman and enjoying the control of being legitimately allowed to ask a young female to do this. This is what gender identity ideology means. Man has sexual fantasy and has created a social view that it is on us all to validate him. I don’t believe all trans people think this way but Stonewall, self ID and the current climate totally enable this creepy behaviour. Poor woman.

SpaceMaaaaan · 19/05/2022 20:40

Primark don't do fittings

FOJN · 19/05/2022 20:40

A perv exploiting peoples fear of being called a bigot and it's the young female staff who will be expected to pander to it. Men's wants are always more important than women's dignity. I'd bet he's never asked to be measured for men's clothing and has done what everyone else does, try things on and see what fits.

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 19/05/2022 20:47

That was a lot of overhearing on your part in this definitely really real scenario.

millytint44 · 19/05/2022 20:57

Well I'm a TERF at the best of times. But if this is true, it's vile.

You're gender critical. Terf is a horrible insulting term used against us.

It's odd that people think I'd bother to make this up, it's a small high street primark in south London so not one of the huge ones, I was looking round the childrens bit with DS getting some cheap bits for nursery, the two staff he spoke to were about 5m apart so pretty easy to hear
