Hi,

My daughter is travelling to France with her Dad tomorrow for a week. I have £25 spending money for her.

In post Brexit times, is it better to send her with the money on a spare debit card of mine? Or is it best to exchange for cash?

See - quick n boring, but I can't find an answer on Nationwide website.

Thank you to anyone in the know.

Give her cash. Not all cafes and small places will take debit cards.

It's just a basic NW account - no overdraft limit or similar.

I wouldn’t be giving her your card. Can you change the cash for euros or else give the money to her dad and he can withdraw euros for her in France.

Hi both thanks for the replies.

I meant to say no overdraft facility for her to dip into!

I can send her with Euros that isn't a problem, but at age of 13 I suspect she'll come home with it all (letting Dad pay) and will lose all on changing back - if it's in notes.

We had a family home in France until 5 years ago and no card charges pre Brexit.

Cash is king I guess!

Ah have just read that banks do charge now plus ex rate. Cash it is then - I'll encourage her to spend all her coins!!

Thank you.
