DVT?

Alj27 · 19/05/2022 07:36

I’ve had calf pain for about 10 days - a burning pain with pins and needles going to my toes

the pain has now started on my groin about 3 days ago

calf is slightly warmer than the other but no swelling or redness

AIBU to start to worry and get it checked out? I feel silly seeing a doctor but I know it can be a symptom of DVT

Your doctor wont think you are silly. When I suspected I had a DVT my doctor saw me as an emergency. Wasnt sure so referred me to hospital who also saw me as an emergency.

DVTs are serious, go and see your GP. Tell the receptionist you think you might have a DVT and hopefully they will fast track you.

ThinWomansBrain · 19/05/2022 07:58

call your gp - if you can't get seen today, 111

KangarooKenny · 19/05/2022 07:59

It might be worth ringing 111 as a GP will likely send you up to the hospital anyway. Either way, yes, get it looked at.

KangarooKenny · 19/05/2022 08:00

Have you any history of back problems, or have you done anything where you might have strained it ?

dizzydizzydizzy · 19/05/2022 08:05

Make a GP appointment or go to a&E today.

A friend had one recently and what happened with him is he felt a bit sore for a day and then the next day felt more sore and had difficulty walking. And then suddenly he felt really bad and his partner took him to A&E.

If the clot moved to your lungs and causes a pulmonary embolism, you will wish you had gone to the doc earlier. If it moves to your brain and causes a stroke, you may not wish you had gone earlier, but the family you have left behind will wish you had.

myuterusistryingtokillme · 19/05/2022 08:14

I would go and see the doctor. I've been hobbling for about 14 weeks after hurting my knee, and the dr I saw the other day is sending me for an ultrasound on my calf (just to be on the safe side) as it is stiff and sore

endofthelinefinally · 19/05/2022 08:17

Yes you must get it checked. DVT is dangerous and the sooner you get seen the better.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/05/2022 08:19

See a doctor as soon as possible. That is what NHS 111 will tell you (I had the same a couple of years ago).

SpaceMaaaaan · 19/05/2022 08:20

They'd rather you got it checked out and it was nothing to worry about than you didn't get it checked out and it turns out it is DVT. Their job is the diagnosing, they don't mind if it doesn't turn out to be what you think it might be.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/05/2022 08:20

Just to reassure you, it may also be a shallow vein thrombosis, which isn't as dangerous.

Alj27 · 19/05/2022 08:54

Thanks everyone!

I work at a hospital, spoken with my seniors this morning who’ve sent me to urgent care to get checked!

SpaceMaaaaan · 19/05/2022 09:00

Hope it all goes ok OP

AndSoFinally · 19/05/2022 09:00

Even doctors find it hard to tell without a blood test or scan. Go and get it checked out

GnomeDePlume · 19/05/2022 09:03

Best wishes. Absolutely the right place to be.

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 19/05/2022 09:05

Go and get seen. I needed seen when I was about 20 and it wasn't anything to worry about, but the doctor was much happier I didn't leave a worrying symptom, especially one so potentially dangerous

GonnaFlyNow · 19/05/2022 09:07

My only symptoms were an ache that started in my toes which started to move up my leg over the course of a few days. Blood test was fine but the scan showed a clot above the back of my knee.
Please go and get this checked out.

ObjectionSustained · 19/05/2022 09:11

I'm glad you're getting it checked OP. My mum had a PE due to DVT. It killed her. Definitely not something to mess about with.

Hope it's all okay.

Alj27 · 19/05/2022 09:52

I’ve been seen he said to take vitamins and get an appointment with the gp, nothing about being breathless or heavy feeling in my chest 🙄

GnomeDePlume · 19/05/2022 10:55

Did urgent care do any blood tests? If not and you still have the leg pain then mention the DVT worry to your GP. He should refer you to the DVT clinic at your hospital.

IME urgent care don't know a lot about DVT. They ask about flights, smoking etc and assume that if those are negative then it can't be DVT.

I have a surprisingly common autoimmune condition which causes clots. Diagnosed when I had a DVT and the DVT clinic didn't brush me off.

Since then I have been back to A&E with a clot. They were not aware of my blood clotting disorder despite it being common.

spanieleyes · 19/05/2022 11:09

My son went to his GP with a sore leg, was ambulanced from the GP surgery to the local hospital and spent a week on the cardiac care ward with blood clots! Be persistent!

IWishTheBishopWell · 19/05/2022 11:20

I had a suspected DVT once when my ankle and calf swelled up after a cramped long haul flight and it was taken very seriously.

111 sent me to urgent care who sent me on to A&E and I was assessed quickly and bloods taken.

It wasn't DVT in my case but the doctors at A&E said always to seek medical advice for DVT symptoms. My dad had DVT a few years ago and had a similar experience at A&E prior to the diagnosis being confirmed.

murasaki · 19/05/2022 11:27

Glad you are getting it checked. My similar symptoms were dvts. Good luck.

willitevergetwarm · 19/05/2022 11:58

Please go and get checked. As DM of a DD (28) who almost lost her life due to blood clots please get it checked, you won't be wasting anyone's time

Vikinga · 19/05/2022 12:02

Keep pushing to get it checked and diagnosed. A friend's BIL in his 40s died of one.
