Physical job and nearing 50

I have a physical job. Sometimes it’s ok and there are short days that are blissful. But then serious work kicks in and the physical nature of the job become overwhelming. I was never like this before - even a year it two ago - but I spend days thinking ‘do I really need thus shit’ and my body aches.

does anyone else feel like this? Is it a slippery slope from here on out? I think the hardest thing that I don’t feel nearly 50 mentally, so almost hate myself for being weak!

Are you self employed, with the option to delegate? (Farmer / landscape gardener for instance.) Or are you employed, with no other option? (NHS / courier / etc.)

It’s not a question of weakness, at all. But you do need to bear in mind that today is the youngest you will ever be ‘going forward’. While you may well still be able to manage as you get older, any resentment you feel will become a burden in itself. Is it possible for you to consider moving to a different, less physically demanding job

I am 50, and my work is physical. A couple of years ago I started going for regular massage (every 4 weeks if I can afford it, 6 to 8 weeks when I can't). Because of my masseuse's advice (I tried three before I found her, she's amazing) I do some stretches as well.

I feel better now than I did when I was 40. I wish I'd done this year's ago.

If you can afford massages, try stretching. That's loads of stuff on YouTube. I do a mix, but I do love yoga with Adrienne. She does stuff that targets specific areas.

Yoga and Pilates. Both will improve your core strength and stamina. If you don't already, get some cardio exercise into your routine too as this will build your energy levels and plus (this is a life changer), Magnesium supplements.

A few months of a regular exercise routine and the right supplements and you will notice a massive change in your stamina and energy levels. I'm older than you and the Magnesium changed my life

Any specific brand recommendations @Justcallmebebes ? I’ve been thinking about a magnesium spray but am not sure?

Apologies for taking so long to respond to those that replied. No, my job is solely me, any change would involve a career change. That may be due but am still seduced by the salary after years of being a single parent without any financial support. I feel I need to make up for lost earning years.

I will give the magnesium a go - and try stretching. The nature of my work makes a regular yoga or Pilates class I’m-ossicle, although it is my plan in the next 18 months to slow down and embrace that.

thanks again
