To think John Lewis are trying to have me over?

Morning!

Hoping to get a more sensible response on here, than I have been getting from John Lewis Customer services.

Ordered some ‘made to order’ curtains on the John Lewis site, curtains arrived, and they have used Black Cotton/thread on very light curtains?
Surely this is not right?

They initially tried to say that it’s the Black out fabric showing through!
Which as the blackout fabric is also cream, this is impossible….
Now they just keep saying ‘the curtains were made to spec, and there is no mistake’?
The spec? Was the fabric, and lining which we chose, and on their stock pictures you cannot see any dark thread.

We have had curtains made before by a seamstress, in a similar style & colour, and there is NO visible stitching on the heading pleats at all?

The curtains were not cheap, and they look terrible.

Firstly, are there any seamstresses who can tell me if this is right?
And what, if anything can I do to get them remade with thread to match the curtains?

Thanks!

Great update OP.

Two years ago I bought made to measure curtains from JL, specifying blackout lining. It was only once I had them up at the window with sunlight shining through that I realised they didn't have a blackout lining, but just the basic one.

I panicked for a bit, thinking I had put the incorrect order in, but I had ordered online and the basic lining is only available if you order in store. Given this was during a lockdown, there was no way they could argue that the order was placed in store.

I got a full set of curtains (4 x curtains for a large bay window costing £600+) re-made with blackout lining for no extra cost. I had to return the incorrect curtains to store, which was a pain.

What a waste of time, effort and money on JL's part for not getting the order right in the first place.

I seem to remember they were made at the same place @EmilyBolton linked to above.

I have rage on your behalf OP. I think they look awful and would be furious 😩

Great result 👏

Great. Hopefully you can take your refund and get the stitching rectified by an actual seamstress who knows what they're doing.

How can it be the blackout lining when it's not black!
Glad you finally got a good result though.

I make curtains professionally and these are diabolical. Quality bespoke curtains are handmade and handstitched. I use my sewing machine much less than a needle and thread. Curtains should have interlining to give some depth, and if you require blackout then a bonded blackout lining is required and then a lining.

The herringbone sewing on the lining is machine stitched.

I'm glad they've sorted it out for you.

Great result. I would imagine John Lewis PR flagged this thread (pun intended...)

IHad some curtains made to measure by John lewis they cost over £1000 pounds this was money that had been left to us by my late mother inlaw because of the size of the windows I have to have made whilst standing on a stool to.put the curtain back on the ring that had come off I pulled the curtains across and they had yellow lines all over the lining on both curtains I logged a complaint with john lewis and the collect one of the curtains to be inspected John lewis came back to me saying the yellow stripes all over the curtains from top to bottom was the colour of the fabric coming through on to the lining 🤔 as i chose standard lining this is not compatable for this type of fabric im so upset as I was never informed at point of sale this might happen and to choose a different lining I have never in all my years heard anything like this so I spoke citizens advice and logged a written complaint as John lewis are just washing there hands with it all I would like to ask you all would you pay that for a pair of curtains in fact the price does not matter but would you accept this to happen iv never heard anything like it and iv shopped at John lewis for 40 years

Why hang them? Could be awkward to refund now. But doesn’t look like stitching, agree with pp tacking!

These are made to measure curtains so I doubt hanging them would be an issue.
