The town i live in has been a bit run down for decades and it definitely would never be classed as anything but a working class town.

A couple of years ago the almost unthinkable happened and our McDonalds closed down.

Driving through the centre yesterday i noticed our Costa has now shut down.

We do still have them at out of town shopping areas but no longer in our town centre.

Its not that I'm shedding any tears about these companies going - but it has made me wonder if this happening everywhere? I think it must show how dire things are for our town centres now or is our town just an anomaly?

It's interesting to hear about the exodus of M&S from town centres! We lost ours recently when it moved to a big edge of town store about 10 miles away. It's been a trend at M&S then and not wholly the fault of the Council, onliners and landlord?

The high street was always a destination place in my teenage years (1990s). I imagine folk can still be persuaded there if the mix of shops, services and leisure activities are right? Whatever that may look like. Although the substandard conversion of shops and offices could hinder that.

Fascinating to read about empty shops still being tax assets by absentee landlords. Blimey.

If that’s at me - I don’t mind outing where I live. In fact I couldn’t care less. But if I’m asking other people if they live there then it’s a bit rude to ‘out’ them without their permissions surely?

No not at you. General question. Not sure why it's rude.

HogwartsForever does your town begin with D?

@pussycatlickinglollyices are you in Maidenhead? We had to go there the other day for something and blimey , it's half demolished and half closed - what a depressing centre for quite an expensive area.

No. Crewe (or Screwed as a local wit changes the signs to)
Nantwich is far nicer and only 4 miles away, we go there.

Because to me if they wanted to say something personal about them, then they’d say it. It’s not for me to.
