To not understand why Harvester STILL have restrictions 'for Covid' ?

We're going out for a family birthday this weekend to our local Harvester. Whilst I appreciate it may not be everyone's choice, for those of us going it suits us well, everyone likes something on the menu and we feel it's reasonably good value.

However in just speaking to a colleague who went last week, she informs me that the restrictions introduced during Covid are inexplicably still in place, and you have to have someone serving your salad at the (serve yourself) salad bar...!

I mean what is the point of this? We have zero restrictions now elsewhere aside from in a medical setting. I just don't get it. I'm quite particular about how I arrange my salad, as I'm sure are others, and having someone dish it up for you just isn't the same!

Harvester - the place NOT to go if you need a massive MN salad 😂

KevinTheKoala · 18/05/2022 11:34

Having the staff serve your salad definitely isn't less hassle for them. It's alot more work and slows down service meaning more complaints, plus the abuse from people who want to serve themselves/ignore the fact that they aren't supposed to meaning the staff member gets in trouble for that too.

hamsaladsandwichh · 18/05/2022 11:35

I think that businesses who had discovered certain covid measures have benefitted their business/been cost effective etc should remove all covid references and just make it the norm if that's what they want.

Remove the self service area and do complimentary salads prepared in the kitchen.

It pisses people off no end having to stand around or wait or have delays 'because covid' when everyone knows covid has absolutely no impact whatsoever.

You know Covid hasn’t miraculously disappeared, right? We’re just pretending it has.

The harvester having people serve salad makes no difference though whether that's true or not !

Pootle40 · 18/05/2022 11:44

Let's see if they these businesses stick to their outlandish 'because Covid' restrictions when their footfall drastically reduces.....me thinks not.

Suzi888 · 18/05/2022 11:45

To save money and stop food waste.

It was fine to cough, splutter and finger the food before 🤣 god, I hate Harvester. Grim!

hamsaladsandwichh · 18/05/2022 11:46

You know Covid hasn’t miraculously disappeared, right? We’re just pretending it has ...................….………........,

You know covid isn't spread through food or touch it is spread through liquid particles during close person to person contact. Stopping self serve at a salad bar is not a genuine covid restriction. It's either a silly rule or being disguised as covid reasons because they want to save money.
Unless they change their offer of salad and remove the self service area, they just look stupid.

To all those saying were just closing our eyes when it comes to the pandemic ,to some up my feelings on it:

"The pandemic not over ,but I think I'm over it"

Lets move on

I swear some people want to go back two years and keep wallowing

Swayingpalmtrees · 18/05/2022 11:50

Harvester will go under unless they reintroduce the salad bar, it is the only thing that makes them stand out and makes them special. I only go there to have the salad, and did not enjoy waiting for the waitress to put it together and I like to choose my own salad and how much of each thing etc.

It is just ridiculous having any covid rules at all now anywhere. Utterly pointless.

I've never used a salad bar since I read a report from Environment Health about what they found in one. The fecal coliform was the final nail in the coffin, I have no desire to eat other people's poo.

Yep. My dad got Hep A from a salad bar in the 90s and was very ill for a while. No open buffet style salad for any of us since. 🤮

Swayingpalmtrees · 18/05/2022 11:51

If you are going to catch up covid, it won't be sharing a spoon for the cucumbers!

TomAllenWife · 18/05/2022 11:55

Silverlining to a shit thing

The hotel I stay at when I go to Canada for work has switched the breakfast buffet to à la carte.

I hate it, for portion control reasons but the opposite reason to what a PP said.

Everything inexplicably comes with a massive serving of fried potatoes, even stuff like the Nutella waffles. I ordered poached eggs on toast in an effort to be healthy and it came looking like a full cooked breakfast.

They don't understand the concept of someone wanting less food on their plate.

Lesperance · 18/05/2022 12:05

Restriction introduced during covid, if they work, for the company, why wouldn't they keep them @gvdv ? It doesn't make sense. Yes, they started in covid, but presumably they find it works better on some level. So there we are. Like working from home for some.

RuthW · 18/05/2022 12:11

I wouldn't go anywhere that didn't take these precautions. It's certainly going to be a long time before I touch a buffet again.

I have covid at the moment.

That's fine. I agree. But don't pass it off as "becuase of covid" and admit that they find it a better way of working. Own it. But stop blaming a lesser service on covid.

And here you are, with covid! If you are so careful and take such precaution, to me that only shows that all this theatre is nonsense anyway

Honeyroar · 18/05/2022 12:17

I think it’s not a bad idea to keep. I know it’s fun trying to pile as much as you can on a plate, but after watching a child sneeze all over a breakfast buffet at a hotel once, I’ve gone right off buffets!

BellaintheWychElm · 18/05/2022 12:24

@Wizzbangfizz - I noticed the other day the Domino's by me have bought back the option for a half and half so I assume that should be in all of them😀

BingeBitch · 18/05/2022 08:29

I quite like it. Who knows how many sneezy nose-picking fuckers had free range before?

All I can say is I was at a family funeral recently and the second the film was lifted on the sandwiches someone sneezed all over them.

Covid or not this is the type of thing I am happy to avoid.

Cornettoninja · 18/05/2022 12:35

Tbh, quite a few of these examples wouldn’t make me presume covid restrictions but the impact of staff off ill 🤷‍♀️

I agree that the salad bar arrangement has likely come about because covid arrangements proved better value for them so they’ve kept it going. I also wouldn’t presume they’re not being transparent about it (I’m not inclined to look though) and more a member of staffs reasoning or they haven’t removed signs.

I'd at least give the ones with guacamole a very wide swerve....

Was it an accident or is it the adult equivalent of when kids used to (maybe still do?) lick their snacks all over immediately, so that nobody else would want to ask them to share? Envy
