My mum has this and has extreme muscle pain that she is on medication for. It’s not very well known off and you really need to go and see your GP. I suppose it’s hard to get them to listen to you. From what I have read staying active if you can helps. My mum struggles when she takes holidays and then goes back to work.

I also think I might have it but would rather not find out for sure. I also have endometriosis and knowing that I have that makes the period pains much worse. I hope you feel better soon.

Brain fog is something that can be caused by oestrogen deficiency during perimenopause, or, for example, by blood sugar fluctuations if you are pre-dabetic, or reactive hypoglycaemia ("carb crash") after eating. Pains in arms and torso could have many causes eg musculoskeletal. It's a big step from these two things to fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis made once all other possible causes have been excluded because, as yet, there is no test for the condition.
What has been tried for you so far?

Aquamarine1029 · 16/05/2022 22:36

Peri-menopause may be the culprit.

PestorPeston · 16/05/2022 22:37

Folate deficiency and anxiety will give the same results. Consult a doctor.

Is fibromyalgia common these days in women?

3 of my neighbours have it along with a friend of mine the wives of 2 colleagues.

sweetbambi · 16/05/2022 23:00

it could be possible. unfortunately for a formal diagnosis it can take a very long time and only once everything else has been eliminated. I do suspect I have it but after 3 years of blood tests and condensing gps I have given up on ever getting a formal diagnosis and am coping as long as I take my pain medication and take care in the winter accepting that other then food shop it is only short trips out for me especially in winter when the weather is cold.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last year. I have a long history of joint pains (I do have arthritis but the major joints that hurt aren't affected). I've had multiple x rays over the years and blood tests to rule out other causes. As PP have said, it's a diagnosis by exclusion.
You will need some serious investigation to get a fibro diagnosis, but from what you've said it may well be that you don't have it, but have other things going on. (I haven't been able to work for several months and have pains and fatigue (not just feeling low on energy, literally like you must lay down immediately and feeling ill with it), plus numbness, tingling and the feeling of being on fire in multiple areas and tight muscles, plus twitching/ jerking.)
It's not a curable condition either - I manage by taking a range of meds for nerve pain (to help me sleep), for pain plus ADs to help with my mental health. And that's just being able to function in my own home, without even thinking of trying to return to work just yet.
I sincerely hope you don't have it, but have something else that is easily treatable.
