Number plate theft

Can I just have a scream about the frustration of this?

It most likely happened from our own driveway. Despite their being an alarm on it. Maybe even in broad daylight. Sometime on last 3 days.

Apparently most likely reason is to steal from petrol stations, but the number plate is now flagged so hopefully no police knocking on our door!

Fortunately we randomly have a spare, so after reporting DH could get to work. (On hold for 30mins to non emergency police line)

But... urgh. Its just so petty and annoying. Home is supposed to be safe...

Is really annoying isn't it ?

The cars in our road get broken in to about once a month. They use the devices that just open the car doors so the cars aren't damaged, but it is just frustrating the things they take..... sunglasses etc.

About 25 years ago there was a spate of number plate thefts. For the same reason - to steal petrol/diesel from forecourts. They stole the plates of the police station chief.

Wait if the plate is flagged now does that mean you can speed through cameras and blame the thieves 😅

You should put a small sticker near the edge of your on your new plates where it would be picked up by a camera. Just in case.

Unfortunately its quite a distinctive motorbike, (not fancy just old!) But they are usually attached to the wrong type of bike so they an te by looking at the pictures whether its the right type of bike for it apparently.

For the tiny amount of fuel that a motorbike tank can hold, it's not worth stealing a plate to get some free fuel. A more likely explanation could be that the person who stole the plate intends to use it for a robbery, or perhaps will fix it to another bike they have stolen before trying to sell the stolen bike. Or it could be that they just want to ride around on someone else's insurance MOT and tax documents without getting caught by the ANPR systems.

Now that it's flagged, anyone riding on that plate is probably at a greater chance of being stopped by the police. Also, there are ANPR systems in use that can flag up impossibly fast journeys that could only be explained by two different people using the same plate a long distance apart from each other.

And I'm surprised that people are stealing plates. I always thought that any criminal with good connections could get whatever they want made by a bent supplier. Could it be there's another motive. If they steal the plate, the bike can't be ridden, the battery eventually goes flat, and then they steal the bike without the alarm activating.
