Children suddenly changing separately for PE

Eldest DD is in Y4 and this week for PE she said the boys and girls have started changing separately for PE.

The girls had to change in a very small hallway where they hang their bags. She said it was difficult.

I thought it weird that this change occurred in the middle of a term.

They are currently learning about puberty in PSHE so I don't know if that's why the change?

Or if this is the age they separate the genders now (I was Y6) or if it could be because of something else? Should I be concerned? Should the school have said something?

Ours isn’t even in separate rooms my son said it’s just girls on one side boys on the other, so not really any different tbh as they can still see each other; really wish they would just allow them to wear PE kit to school

I allowed children to change separately when I noticed that a couple of the girls in my class (Y4) were clearly uncomfortable about changing with boys. They hadn't mentioned it to me -probably too shy - so I just made the change. I don't know why a parent would expect to be informed of this change though Confused

Personally I think they should be changing separately from the start of year 4,that way anyone who starts early wouldn't feel even more self conscious that they're suddenly separated.

Why don’t you bring it up with the school?
