So I have a 2 bed council flat, very lucky to have gotten this, it’s in a lovely quiet area, my daughter goes to school nearby. She’s in secondary school and it’s within walking distance

I have a young son who is 2, I’m now entitled to move to a 3 bed house, I’m fairly low on the priority list quite rightly. I am saving for when I will move but the trouble is I want a house in the same area they don’t come up very often at all so i will be here for a long time I think.

My flat desperately needs painting and freshening up with new floors as I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years. I’ve started painting but everyone is saying I’m crazy for spending money on this house. What would any of you do in this situation, wait for the perfect house to come along or decorate and spend that bit more about being here for an unspecified amount of time

I’d do whatever would be in the best interest for the children.

Do you share a bedroom with your son? Or does he have his own room and you sleep in the lounge sort of thing? Whatever the sleeping arrangements are, are you happy with them?

Ideally as your son gets older, both children would
need their own room. & you would need your own bedroom too OP. So I would be inclined to want a 3 bed as soon as physically possible.

The preferred area won’t always be guaranteed. So
it all depends on how long are you willing to wait for the perfect house to crop up in the perfect area? Could it months? Years?

No harm whatsoever in decorating your current flat, if you feel it needs freshening up. Your not crazy for doing that at all. (Just don’t spend a fortune
on it if it’s likely you’ll be moving soon.)

Hope it all works out for you x

I think your current environment is important. I’d paint enjoy the present and continue to plan for the future.
I don’t think living somewhere that needs work is peaceful or good mentally.

I know it could be years so I’m willing to go a bit further but just worried that my daughter would have to travel a long way as a lot of the houses are at least 2 bus rides away from school.
My son currently sleeps with me and my daughter has her own room.
I would love for them to have their own room so depending on how time goes on I will move to the living room.
Thank you for the opinions, I write this as I’m repainting the bathroom, even a fresh coat of paint really changes things
