I made an offer on an item for sale online for a little over £200. It's been for sale since 2019, almost 3 years. I offered ~90% of the selling price.
I thought this was reasonable, having previously worked in brick and mortar stores (antiques, vintage etc) the usual discount would be ~10% if anyone wanted to haggle.
The seller had activated the option to make offers (sellers have to actively choose to do this, it's not a default option, so I assumed she was open to offers).
The seller came back with a counter offer... knocking 41p off the original price.
I'm just confused if I'm honest. Was I unreasonable to offer? Is she being passive aggressive? It feels passive aggressive but maybe that's just me... I just don't understand why you'd indicate you're open to offers if the only discount you're prepared to give on a £200+ item is 41p! And why 41p? It's such a strange number. Why not just decline the offer if you think it's too low?
I'm sure I will find something else so I won't be losing sleep over it, I just find it strange!
