If you are one hundred percent dedicated and stick to it you can defo lose a decent amount. Up water intake to at least 2 litres per day, cut out carbs like pasta, rice, bread, chips. Cut out alcohol and all junk food/takeaways. Eat high protein as it stops you feeling hungry. Calorie count using my fitness pal. Work out what your daily calories should be using the James Smith Calculator on his website.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 22:54

@Lochjeda thank you for these tips!! I’m definitely dedicated. I just wanted reassurance I guess that in 6 weeks I can make a difference

Even James smith doesn’t advise cutting carbs. In fact the opposite! Just eat Wholegrain and Wholemeal versions instead and smaller amounts.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 22:58

I think I might struggle completely cutting out all carbs but I’m going to really reduce them

Bywayofanupdate · 10/05/2022 22:58

It depends how much you need to lose. I needed to lose a stone, 1kg per week so managed it in 6 weeks. Upped my cardio and reduced carbs.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 22:59

@Menora thanks. Yes wholemeal is the way forward for me I think!

In 6 weeks probably more noticeable in inches than on the scales. I personally like Nutracheck. Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep and exercising regularly. Also body scrubbing/brushing and all thinks self care like. Moisturizing, nails, wax etc.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 23:00

@Bywayofanupdate i would love to lose a stone but would also be happy with 1/2 stone. I’m 5ft 7 and 70kg

Question10 · 10/05/2022 23:02

@Noglassjustthebottleandastraw thanks. Out of interest, why do you suggest the self care stuff? I’m intrigued because I need a wax and I’m terrible at moisturising. Do you think there is a connection?

That amount of calories is what’s recommended for 4 year olds. The advice to cut out certain food groups is nonsense. It’s all about calories in vs calories out. Consistency is key and being realistic

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 10/05/2022 23:05

@Question10 personally yes I think so. I think it makes you look more toned and refreshed/healthy. Body brushing and maybe some yoga will help with de puffiness. Waxing eyebrows for example definitely changes the shape of how your face looks.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 23:08

@Prisonbreak interesting thoughts. I actually thought that calorie amount was “do-able”. Do you think the 2000 mark is more realistic? I’m not planning on cutting out food groups completely. But will reduce my carbs and up my protein.

Question10 · 10/05/2022 23:09

@Noglassjustthebottleandastraw this is real food for thought! I definitely feel better when I’m more groomed. I must admit, I’ve let all that “go” at the moment and it doesn’t feel good.

Don’t cut food groups just be clever with them. I still eat rice, pasta and bread but Wholegrain and they don’t dominate my plate like they used to. Same with fats and sugars. They aren’t evil just don’t over do them. You get more for your money with water based foods and can eat a lot more of them (water based is fruit and veg etc) so you can eat a good volume amount and be full up. James smith on tiktok has a lot of realistic advice

Question10 · 10/05/2022 23:16

@Menora great advice. Thank you!

Also my only other advice is to be really honest with yourself about what you eat. It’s really easy to fall into a trap of eating back all your exercise calories or underestimating what you do eat. If you are a picker you may be eating a lot of food you aren’t aware of - most people under estimate weights of food or amounts - eating cheese out of the fridge while cooking or finishing up your kids sweets, so try to be more present when you eat mentally and take note of what choices you are making. Also preparation is key. You need easy access to good foods regularly that you enjoy and aren’t just grabbing meal deals from Tescos

Slimming World. I joined at 5ft 2 and 12st 4. Lost 12lbs in first 6 weeks and now down 2.5 stone after 5 months. Never felt restricted. Just ate less fats/sugar (but still chocolate everyday!) and made sure veg made up 1/3-1/2 of my plate at meal times. Porridge for breakfast. Soup or eggs/lean bacon/mushrooms/tomatoes for lunches.

"Carbs like" is what I said, she can continue to eat simple carbs which are far healthier for you.

Lochjeda · 11/05/2022 19:02

And let's be realistic, its for 6 weeks and shes trying to lose the maximum amount she can, hopefully a stone, its not a long term diet to lose a large amount of weight. I wasn't basing my advice on James Smith, I advised his calorie counter. Cutting out stodgy carbs with no nutrition like bread for 6 weeks isnt exactly difficult or going to do your body a disservice. Iv lost 5 stone since January by doing the above and have gone from a size 16 to an 8/10 and have never been healthier.

HairyScaryMonster · 11/05/2022 19:38

I've been doing slimming world but also just started HIIT, following Joe Wickes on YouTube. It's helped tone my bum (problem area) so a combination that's worked for me. Only lost 10lb in 7 weeks but slow and steady is what works for me.

marshmallowmama · 11/05/2022 20:36

Im also trying to lose weight for an upcoming event. So far I'm on day 3 and ive been really careful about what I have been eating (have also cut out Diet Coke completely) ive lost 3 lb so feeling pleased!

Good luck on your journey op

Hankunamatata · 11/05/2022 20:44

Fast 800 - I lost over a stone in 6 weeks

Maybebabyno2 · 11/05/2022 21:01

For a really quick fix, I would do exante for 6 weeks. But it's not long term so would need to go onto much healthier diet after your event.
