For a girl.

Posting for traffic.

What presents have you given or received that are different and you really liked/DD really liked?

It's a v v long time ago, but I got a cross, a rosary & a "faith, hope & charity" pendant. Not "different", but I still have them.

DD got a load of "grown up" jewellery, nothing of which she liked and which, at 18, is still in its boxes in a drawer. She liked her bike and the money.
We bought my nieces an iPod back in the day.

A simple gold cross and chain, a prayerbook and money!

Depends how close you are to the child and also how religious.

We gave presents to the children of a family friend, the older one is DD's best friend. In both cases they got photo frames, girly but not childish. The older one got a photo of her and DD, the younger one a photo of her with their cats. Plus some money.

We are atheists so a religious gift wouldn't be something I would give and I would expect parents/family/godparents to give those.

Hard cash

Deadringer · 11/05/2022 19:22

I agree with pp, gifts and communion jewellery are usually given by family and agreed upon in advance, rosary beads from granny, prayer book from godparents or whatever. Most children love getting money in a card, it doesn't have to be a lot.

SparkyBlue · 11/05/2022 19:23

Money in a card being honest.

Blarting · 11/05/2022 22:06

I agree with money, we're distant relatives.

So, is £30 ok?

Yes £30 in a card would be very much appreciated.

I’m in the US, but based on other responses it looks like things are similar.

As a GodParent you give the ‘starter pack’ medal, Rosary, Prayer Books, etc.
As a close family, it’s jewelry or watches + money + a keepsake
As a relative, it’s a card + money
