Sent an email with God Bless as a sign off

I wasn't sure where to put this.

I've just received a work related email from an outside organisation with some very useful contacts and project opportunities.

The author signed off as stated in the subject line. I don't care one way or another and shall follow up as usual.

I've never seen a work email signed off in this way. Would you think it not really the right thing to do? I can imagine someone somewhere would complain if they were petty enough.

So it's not me being unreasonable but do you think the sender is? It doesn't bother me, would it you?

OP posts:

I’ve never seen that used but whoever using it would mean it kindly, I’d assume.

But on the other the levels of passive aggressive email sign offs may have met new heights. Kindest regards being the epitome of it until now, god bless could surpass it, depending on the context of an email thread.

FarmGirl78 · 10/05/2022 21:24

Yawn. OP, are you the person who tries to get Christmas holidays called "Winter break" incase it offends someone, when no-one actually is offended? This is where society is losing the plot. If anyone has issue with it let them take it up with your emailers boss. You don't have issue with it so just walk on by.

RichTeaRichTea · 10/05/2022 21:26

I’ve had it several times, from fellow HCPs. Never doubted their professionalism, though it’s not a sign off I would use myself.

Suzi888 · 10/05/2022 21:26

I wouldn’t mind.

KittenKong · 10/05/2022 21:28

I eye-roll at pronouns in a sign off but this wouldn’t bother me (like I said - worked for the church, never seen it in an email).

Snoken · 10/05/2022 21:29

Wouldn’t bother me. It also doesn’t have to be a Christian thing, there are plenty of other Gods that people believe in. It’s not worse than people saying bless you when you sneeze.

KittenKong · 10/05/2022 21:30

Or ‘have a nice day’!

Circumferences · 10/05/2022 21:31

In my opinion it's way better than

Kind regards
Circumferences, she/her

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 10/05/2022 21:33

I volunteer in a role which involves counselling and support to families and I sign off with 'Take care', but in my work role it's always 'Kind regards'. Anything else would feel unprofessional unless it's a non formal email to a friend or someone I'm mentoring etc.

Rockbird · 10/05/2022 21:36

I've never seen it but it would make me smile so I wouldn't mind it at all and it certainly wouldn't make me question their professionalism FGS.

Summerfun54321 · 10/05/2022 21:38

I’m going to start using “Peace be with you” as a work signature just to mix things up a bit.

MissTrip82 · 10/05/2022 21:38

Not very professional, and suggests the person is one of those insightless Christians who can’t grasp that the church isn’t a benign influence to some people in the world, but an actively harmful one.

I’m a practising Christian myself.

Blinky21 · 10/05/2022 21:38

Inappropriate, I'd probably just laugh

Athenajm80 · 10/05/2022 21:39

EarringsandLipstick · 10/05/2022 21:15

'Love & light' 😂

Sooo tempted to spend tomorrow signing my emails this way!

This could be the new Mumsnet secret handshake!

RoyKentsChestHair · 10/05/2022 21:41

I’m not at all religious, but I would find this endearing. Someone sharing their faith in a harmless way shouldn’t be cause for concern.

RoyKentsChestHair · 10/05/2022 21:42

If they started insisting everyone else do it, I’d be pissed off Wink

BotterMon · 10/05/2022 21:43

Never seen this on a professional email but I wouldn't mind as both my Welsh grandmothers used to say God bless in place of goodbye or good night so I find it rather endearing.

FourChimneys · 10/05/2022 21:45

I would just roll my eyes but not comment. I don't believe in any god so wouldn't feel blessed anyway.

This. Are we going to start policing email sign offs now? Good grief.

WhenTheNightFalls · 10/05/2022 22:11

A Christian did this to me once but it was a final goodbye message which 'God bless' was added to at the end. I am not religious but it did move me. There's something quite personal and loving in those words. I like to think so anyway.
In a professional context it is a little odd but each to their own.

MzHz · 10/05/2022 22:11

Our old insurance agent used to Bless us whenever they finished a call.

it was kind of cute

Foldingchair · 10/05/2022 22:12

I'd think it was was gran. If she'd come back from the dead and could use emails.

She used to say 'goodnightngodbless' as all one word though.

mubarak86 · 10/05/2022 22:12

I am a firm believer in God but there's a HCP that deals with my ds regularly and he always says God bless as we leave and I'm not entirely comfortable with it. He doesn't say it to anyone else and as we are Muslim I can only assume he thinks we are in need of some sort of guidance/prayer.

Pocahontas9000 · 10/05/2022 22:14

Judt accept the blessing and move on :)

Greensleeves · 10/05/2022 22:14

I would think they are the kind of boundary-trampling, no-filter Christian who cannot resist even the smallest opportunity to inject religion into every interaction. Accordingly, I would avoid them to the fullest possible extent.
