Eye hospital dickface

I’ve just come here to rant.
I had a five hour round trip to the eye hospital today, which involved waking up at 5.30am and receiving some upsetting news.

When I came out after my appointment I could hardly see anything due to eye drops/dilation. I rushed to the bus stop. I couldn’t accurately read the small clock on my phone but there was either a bus due any minute, or I might have to wait in the rain for half an hour in which case I may as well start walking home.

I politely asked a passing man if he had the time. He didn’t. My phone was in my hand so I held it up and said ‘Please could you read this? I’ve just been to the eye hospital and I can’t see it’. Before I’d finished the sentence he looked me up and down contemptuously and said with a sneer ‘I don’t have time for this. I’m in a dash’ and walked off.

What a dick.
It would have taken him one second to glance at my phone and tell me the time.

Did you explain why you couldn't read your phone yourself to him? If not I can see why he felt it might be fishy . .

Nanny0gg · 10/05/2022 17:56

She did...

Apologies, I missed that bit and only read the look at my phone part

BattenburgDonkey · 10/05/2022 19:50

So it was a 1 hour round trip, but a 5 hour day. Round trip refers to travel to a place and back which is what confused people. You really have no way of knowing that this guy was having a great day, wasn’t in a rush, new for certain you weren’t a druggy etc, really he could just have been having a crap day like you.

WhatIsThisPlease · 10/05/2022 19:52

No help whatsoever for this occasion but if you have an iphone you could have asked Siri for the time.

Helenahandkart · 10/05/2022 19:54

“Excuse me, do you have the time please?”
”No, but it’s about midday”
“Oh thanks. Please could you read this clock? I’ve just been to the eye hospital and I can’t see it”
was what was said. He was already walking off as I mentioned the eye hospital.

What is happening on this thread? He was rude AF OP. I’m sorry. I hope you’re ok and that you’re feeling ok after your diagnosis.

Helenahandkart · 10/05/2022 19:54

He was smiling and strolling and carrying flowers! He wasn’t having a bad day!

I’m absolutely amazed at how paranoid everyone is about being scammed/robbed in the street. Maybe I live in a particularly easy going town or something.

Not that easy going if a stranger wouldn't even give you the time of day Grin

Helenahandkart · 10/05/2022 19:57

@Herejustforthisone
It’s turning into one of those weird mumsnet threads where everyone gets really antagonistic and starts saying mad things just to play devils advocate. Good old mumsnet - so supportive of women!

Those flowers could have been for a dying relative for all your trying to justify your judgement

Reading this thread you would think that the whole country is populated almost exclusively by junkies and criminals. Careful out there, it’s a jungle!

I think you’re being a bit dramatic! You’re making out your travelled 5 hours but it was including your appt… He guessed at what the time might be and then walked off, you’re a stranger to him and can’t presume what kind of say he was having or what he thought you were going to do/say! Just because you look ‘normal’ doesn’t mean you weren’t about to stab him! Next time get a taxi…

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/05/2022 20:08

Sorry OP but this made me LOL a bit as I can completely empathise with how you felt.

I have had more appointments at the Eye Hospital than I can count, there was a period where I was having to go in every couple of months to have Flourascene (sp??) injected and photos taken of the back of my eyes. I reacted strongly to the dye every time so it made me immediately sick and turned me yellow (fluorescent yellow highlighter coloured eyes, nail beds and wee for a couple of days). So leaving the hospital I would be yellow and clammy with massively dilated pupils and squinting in the light. Looked a treat!

Fun times!

DrBrennerFan · 10/05/2022 20:09

I’ve had these drop so often I can manage but then I also have long cane and ask at Euston station for help my phone prints larger to sorry you’ve had no help it’s sad isn’t it? People frightened to ask for help if I need it I ask women in crowded places.

rtft
30 mins + 30 mins + 3.5 hours + 30 mins = 5 hours

But that is not a 'round trip' a journey to one or more places and back again, especially by a route that does not cover the same ground twice. is the dictionary definition.

WeOnlyTalkAboutBruno · 10/05/2022 20:11

He gave you an off-hand answer designed to make you go away (the time estimation) and you persisted with the phone. Rightly or wrongly, I suspect he’s taken this as you persisting when he clearly doesn’t want to engage, which he’s maybe read as a precursor to you asking for money or whatever.

I’m not articulating this well.

I did. RTFDictionary. A round trip is the journey there and back.

SparklyLeprechaun · 10/05/2022 20:13

I had a guy ask me to show him some directions on google maps on his phone, when I looked he had a porn page open. He didn't even look suspicious, just your random middle aged bloke. I didn't vote because it was an unpleasant experience for you, but tbh I wold have at least been tempted to walk away as well.

The 3.5hrs wasn't travelling time though.

Anyway I'm sorry you've had to go to the eye hospital.

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 10/05/2022 20:14

He was so mean. I'd have helped you op!
I remember trying to find DH in a waiting room following an eye procedure and then realising I was in a total fog and had no idea where he was sitting. A lovely stranger noticed me stood there & kindly walked me over to him, he was literally about 10 foot away engrossed in the newspaper (dick).

SirChenjins · 10/05/2022 20:14

So he stopped, said ‘it’s about midday’ and explained he was in a hurry and walked on. Yes it would have been nice if he’d stopped and looked at a strangers phone but I can understand his wariness at getting drawn into something he didn’t have time for.

I hope your eye appointment went well otherwise.

Helenahandkart · 10/05/2022 20:20

Those of you who are fixated on my travelling time (as if that was the focus of the thread): I’m really really sorry that I’ve misled you all by failing to adhere to the dictionary definition of a round trip. I thought I had clarified and minuted exactly how I spent my five hours sufficiently well for everyone to be clear but maybe not.
Massive apologies.
