Is this an appropriate dress for a wedding?

I had bought this dress from M&S for my holiday but did not wear it whilst away (still tagged, I only remove them once I wear them). I’m not sure when I would wear it next so considering returning, but I then thought I could wear it to a wedding in October I’m attending as a guest. My DP doesn’t think it’s the right style dress to wear to a wedding because it’s animal print, and now I’m torn.

Is it appropriate? I plan to wear with very pale pink sandals and pale pink clutch. I am mid thirties.

It's lovely and totally suitable even if it is a church wedding. I don't understand why people think that suddenly means you need a really formal outfit.
Nobody will look twice at that. It's not like you're rocking up in a tracksuit.

Ducksinthebath · 10/05/2022 12:10

I’ve seen that in the flesh and it’s lovely. Definitely fine for a wedding if you dress it up a bit unless it’s a super formal society affair.

Irishfarmer · 10/05/2022 12:17

I think it's fine for a wedding. I don't think I would wear it to a close family members wedding where I would be in professional photo's for decades to come but a friends wedding 100%. I say that because it is a little casual but not really. Especially with heels/ hair/ make up done.

50/50 if you'd be cold in Oct, but that's what coats are for. I wouldn't wear a v heavy dress to a Dec wedding either because you'd probably melt inside the reception.

Wexone · 10/05/2022 12:36

For me personally, its a little too casual for a wedding. It would depend on the wedding setting and whos it is. I would have to dress it up a bit more for a wedding, but that's me. Would also agree with people that it might be too cold for an October wedding so would look at a dressy coat or jacket to go over it if you are going to wear it

I think there have been really good points made by everyone, I appreciate your opinions.

Neither of us are particularly into fashion and we value each other’s opinions on when we choose outfits for events etc. DP has attended far more many weddings than I have so I guess he is used to seeing more ‘formal’ outfits on women.

Good point about the weather in October, however it will be a wedding at a stately home so no travelling between venues.

I may likely return the dress anyway as I hate keeping clothes that I don’t have a purpose and/or more than one opportunity to wear. And animal print may very well drop out of fashion as quickly as it came in! Not that I follow fashion in any way…

If you do return and are looking I've just got a really lovely dress on Depop. It's perfect for a wedding and was only £15. Lots of second Hand / gently worn stuff on there. Mine still has the £95 price tag on. Not sure of your taste but if you just type wedding guest dress and your size you'll likely be spoilt for choice. Mine is a dark green Hope and Ivy dress with tiers in black lace. I really like it x

Clymene · 10/05/2022 19:51

It's very pretty and absolutely suitable for any kind of wedding. Church, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, secular. And any others I've forgotten.

totallyoutnumbered · 10/05/2022 19:52

This is the one I just bought. Hope you find something lovely x

It's too casual, frumpy, and unattractive. You can do better.

BobHadBitchTits · 10/05/2022 20:25

It's really hideous.

Absolutely no need 🙄

TokyoTen · 10/05/2022 21:08

I think it's perfect!

LicoricePizza · 10/05/2022 21:16

Lovely dress & leopard print been cool for years now.

LetitiaLeghorn · 10/05/2022 21:18

In what world do those ugly sandals do that dress, or model, a favour?

Snowiscold · 10/05/2022 21:20

I think it’s nice and fine for a wedding. I don’t think it’s too casual at all.

AmberLynn1536 · 10/05/2022 21:21

It’s fine for a summer wedding but for an October wedding in a stately home I think it will look wrong, it’s too pink and summery and I think it will look out of place at that time of year.

Agree I don’t think I have ever seen a more hideous shoe.

Missymare · 10/05/2022 21:42

Love it it’s perfect for a wedding

Wiseflower · 25/05/2022 16:40

The dress is fine because pink is very suitable colour for weddings!
Just dress it up with glamourous shoes/ankle boots, handbag and pretty earrings.

The wedding is in October, it will be very cold. Wear with dressy black jacket as there is black colour in the dress. Sandals may not be suitable for autumn weather though.
It is still very early to look for a dress outfit. Many new styles will be appearing from July onwards for autumn parties and special occassions - all offering next day deliveries.
