To be irritated by the popular responses to questions starting with 'So...'

Listening to radio 4 on my commute to work I realised that every single time a person was asked a question, the responder paused and then said 'So....' and finally answered the question ( or not!)
This is clearly a fad that has only started happening recently and I'm usually fairly easy going. However I'm felling my hackles rising just waiting for the pause and ........'So...'

It drives me mad. I listen to Radio 4 quite a lot and all the so-called experts on whatever topic start their replies with "So....". Soooooooo annoying! 😡

Another thing some people do, which makes no sense to me, is to begin their answer to a question with "Yes no" (or "Yeah no"). What is the point of that? The answer is either "Yes" or "No". Why are you saying both?

I am guilty of the "So ... " thing. I hate public interviews so it's trying to calm myself, is why I say it.

Sean Kelly, cycling commentator, starts many of his contributions with "Yes WEEELLLL..." Famous for it.

This drives me mad too!

Did the parcel get delivered today?
Yeah no, it was delivered at 3pm.
Eh!?!

Another one along similar lines is answering a question with a negative when the person intends a positive. E.g. watching the F1 preamble, interviewer asks a correspondent ...you met Lewis Hamilton at such and so event which I heard was great etc... response was No, it was a great event, everyone had such a good time....rather than saying Yes, it was a great event etc.

....takes self off to pedants corner.

I take on board the irritation over the 'so' replies to questions but even worse are the posters who actually begin their post with ''So....", as if in the middle of a conversation.
eg
'So DH and I had a blazing row last night and....'
Otiose.

I'm like much more like annoyed by the use of like like between every like phrase.

I hate it too, what I hate more is being told to 'Think' something. Instead of a description or explanation, we have to 'Think bigger than a football pitch' or 'think shades of green.'

It grates on me too, and it's one of those things that looks even more stupid on subtitles than it sounds spoken!
