To warn those with a peanut allergy?

Aibu to warn those with a peanut allergy to watch out for anything with soya lethicin/ lethicin in general in it, not to eat it for the time being?

I work in the food industry, investigations ongoing but looks like a contamination of peanut oil further back in the supply chain hasn't been picked up.Lots of manufacturers now awaiting test results/ doing calculations to see if the levels they've used leaves a big enough trace by the time it gets to the end product. Lots of products are already on the shelf with this contaminated soya lethicin in it.

Usually used in ice cream/chocolate but can be in lots of other things.

Agree Iceland, that's why I posted my earlier link.
One of my dc has a peanut allergy, she's an adult and extremely careful so while I appreciate the OP giving the heads up I also go off and do my own research on the topic.

As a heads up to people who maynot be aware. If you're going on holidays this year out of Ireland/UK, don't assume anything about food.
We found out years ago, that fries are often cooked in peanut oil in places like Italy and Spain. While apparently there isn't a huge risk and we're certain they'd been eaten previously by DC it's not one we will chance.

To the people who's allergies are reacting recently after certain foods, do you take anti hist afterwards?

ReallyIrish, it was the very sensible posting and linking by PP that helped to get it into perspective for me. Thanks so much for that or poor DS would have been living on fresh air and sunshine.

I've called our allergy department this morning, they're going to look into it but don't seem to be very worried and are happy that we just keep taking our normal precautions.

Any updates on this issue?

Thank you

I wonder, has anyone heard anything from official sources, like the allergy charities or their allergy consultant? I still can't see any official announcement or warning online.

This needs to go to the press. Awareness should be raised in a wide scale

Thank you for posting this. Incredibly worrying. It may be a complete coincidence but my DS, who has a peanut allergy, has had two episodes of being sick last week. (And on one occasion suddenly had a barking cough! Both times he didn’t have a fever or diarrhoea, just sickness)

Both episodes were in the night and both after eating something chocolatey earlier in the day (items which are peanut safe and he’s had before ) When I have looked for common ingredients, soya lecithin is in both chocolatey items. He’s not a child who is usually sick and we normally manage his allergy well.

Never mind abroad @ReallyIrish - FiveGuys fry in peanut oil in the UK and Ireland! They own it but it’s hard to spot the signs sometimes.
