You could look on Rightmove for rental prices and google for council tax bands, eg
www.manchester.gov.uk/info/500336/how_its_worked_out/6306/council_tax_bands_and_charges

It would help enormously if you said why you wanted to know, and a bit more about your situation and possibly posted in chat or Money Matters.

Otherwise, I'd say YABU because without context any answers will just be a list of random numbers because everyone has different incomes, basic outgoings, family sizes and priorities and what it costs other people to live in a particular area doesn't help you if you're looking to see if you can afford to live Manchester.

For example, are you wanting to know about a period detached in a desirable area or a council flat somewhere less salubrious?

OP, you also need to consider where in Manchester. I have an M postcode, but pay my council tax to Bury council. My DB pays his to Trafford.

They won't be much use to you as a comparison - what a friend rents her city centre flat + bills for is more than my 2-bed + bills in south Manchester, and both are WAY more than my other friend's houseshare in Wythenshawe, but then I have friends renting a 3-bed in Chorlton who are paying £££££££.

So it depends why you want to know! Rightmove is probably more useful, so you can see an idea for your area and then look up council tax bands.

'In or around Manchester' is an area that includes millions of people, with some of the most expensive and cheapest housing costs in the country, and lots inbetween.

You can find out the exact council tax for the property you're looking at, you'll need to work out the borough first. Most people I know in GM are paying £50ish per month for water. Those are the things specific to the area. Gas and electric are no different to what they'd be anywhere else. I guess you'd probably need a bit more heating here than the south of England, a bit less than if you were moving from the north of Scotland.

I don't rent, but how long is a piece of string? GM contains some incredibly cheap areas and a couple that are essentially southern prices, then you can widen the gap even further if by 'around Manchester' you meant also the Cheshire fringes. Not much point in people telling you their rent for a two bed in Wigan if you need to be in Hale, or vice versa.
