To wish Scottish restaurants/cafes etc had 'scores on the doors'?

I recently moved up to Scotland and I'm finding the lack of hygiene rating at restaurants difficult to deal with! I'm so used to checking the hygiene rating of a place before eating there and when living in England I tended to only eat at places with hygiene rating of 4 or above.

AIBU to wish that Scottish restaurants had scores on the doors and not simply a 'pass/fail' rating?

Yabu. I've never looked at them.

I eat out often in England. I have never checked this & wouldn't know how to. Just wouldn't occur to me. The OP appears to need some sort of assistance with their own "issues".

I’m going to Edinburgh this weekend. Looking forward to eating every meal out with wild disregard for hygiene pass or fails. I’ve added a kinder bueno ice cream to the must have list too, with or without wrapped chocolate bar atop.

Toottooot · 11/05/2022 21:49

Jist dinna eat oot - nae problems then ken.

Chickychoccyegg · 11/05/2022 22:08

Oh which ice cream shop is this, I'll be in Edinburgh at the weekend, and the ice cream looks lovely.
Maybe look for some support in handling your OCD, and you may feel less anxious about hygiene ratings and the like.

Move away again if you like?

Acrasia · 11/05/2022 22:35

I imagine with the Bueno, they will have bought it in a sealed box in bulk (rather than popping into the local corner shop for a single bar), which, until it is removed from the box by the person putting it onto the ice cream, will only have been touched by the robots in the factory.

might lose a star for storing chocolate wrappers on ice cream? You have no actual clue how a food safety inspection actually works or the legislation behind it do you? Scotland don't do star ratings because it is actually meaningless, quite simply a premises will either be deemed safe to be open or it's not, in which case they will given a period of time to bring their premises up to standard or legal action to close will be taken. They may be given instructions on how to improve their standards and the schedule of re-inspection will reflect this, but unless their practices are unsafe, then they are not a danger to the public and they will remain able to trade.

Having a food poisioning outbreak is not always an indication of a poor standard, the cause may be external to the business - and EH will always work in close partnership with the business whilst investigations are carried out and give lots of advice on improving due diligence to reduce the possibility repeat occurrences. If the business is fully co-operative then there is no expection of a repeat and the business is safe to continue trading. Investigation will occur on a confirmed case of food poisoning (labratory confirmed and pathogen identified) not because someone on facebook said they had the runs after visiting the place - and this is not publicised by EH either so often what you hear is indeed hearsay and rumour.

M74 might be your solution

I saw a bueno wrapper on top of some brownies in Milton Keynes earlier

It makes much more sense than a star rating. It's like being 'a little bit pregnant'...you either are or you aren't.

I'm never going to Milton Keynes now. It's ruined for me.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 13/05/2022 15:33

In that photo, they're just using the Kinder Bueno bar to advertise the flavour.

What kind of food poisoning do you think you'll get from a chocolate bar wrapper - and how do you eat a chocolate bar normally?!

WindyGlowers · 13/05/2022 15:44

I've never thought about it and I live in Scotland. When I was a student in a Scottish city everyone just knew which food place to avoid 🤢
