AIBU to expect better quality towels for £17

Bought some bathroom towels from Dunhelm as someone said their towels were good. £17 for a bath sheet. They feel quite thin? Any recommendations for towels? I bought teal and orange ones so don't want just white, would like brighter colours. Any idea on prices for your recommendations please.

I've bought towels from Dunelm for years now, and NEVER found them to be thin, we even use them in our luxury holiday let, so anything thin wouldn't be acceptable, and we've certainly never had any complaints. If you're not happy with those you bought, take them back, and then feel some of the others, you may just have picked up the wrong range.

Also bought towels from Dunelm for years, they've never been thin either.
Can't stand a thin towel too 🤣

SillySallySassySausage · 06/05/2022 18:24

I've no experience of Dunelm towels but I generally buy Christy towels from tk maxx/homesense at vastly reduced prices. I love them and they really last.

anewername · 06/05/2022 18:24

I know what you mean had some amazing thick John Lewis ones. Bought again in a different colour and thin as anything.

I buy online from Mitre Linen who are a hotel supplier and the quality is good. Most of their towels are white but they do have a limited number of coloured options.

I've had good ones from M&S in the past. I would go into a store as they tend to have a few ranges and you can feel the thickness.

Primark ones are surprisingly good for the money. Or TK Max have some good bargains.

I miss BHS for towels.

Someone on here recommended Asda Super Soft towels. I bought some of the bath sheets and they are brilliant. Only £8 and very impressed with them.

TheMagicDeckchair · 06/05/2022 18:50

Another vote for M&S Egyptian cotton towels. They come in lots of colours too. We have some that we bought 9 years ago and they’re still thick and soft.

Welshmaenad · 06/05/2022 18:57

The Asda super soft ones are brilliant, mine have been going strong for five years now and still lovely and thick and soft. They're brilliant value.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 06/05/2022 19:05

Asda towels are brilliant. Some lovely colours as well.

StridTheKiller · 06/05/2022 19:11

Tsco and Asda do the best towels. YANBU to expect expensive towels to be decent quality.

Iheartmysmart · 06/05/2022 19:17

Asda towels are lovely but I find that the darker colours shed fluff really badly. I gave my dark green ones to the animal rescue centre as I was fed up with looking like Shrek after my shower. Didn’t seem to matter how often they were washed either. My white ones are great.

BaaMoon · 06/05/2022 19:18

J-lew about £50 for a decent towel

LadyEloise10 · 06/05/2022 19:42

Next did lovely towels in a great range of colours.
Not sure of more recent quality as haven't bought recently.

muddyford · 06/05/2022 19:47

Marks and Spencer are dear but soooo thick. Ours must be at least a decade old and still feel luxurious.

FleurDeLizz · 06/05/2022 20:12

Another vote for Asda towels I love mine and they’re great value

AndSoFinally · 06/05/2022 20:17

IKEA ones are surprisingly good. Not the cheap ones though

ButtockUp · 06/05/2022 20:23

Bought two towels from Dunelm last year.
One is about to go in the bin.
The strange cloth trim , that so many towels have these days ( why?) was clearly stitched with the wrong thread and so the cloth trim, has shrunk badly.
The towel now resembles a boiled sweet in a twisty wrapper.
Also , far too fluffy despite regular washing with no fabric conditioner, so you just spread the wetness around your skin as opposed to drying it.

OliveHenry · 06/05/2022 20:29

Reading this, I must be the only person who actually likes a thin towel!

I have some Turkish ones from TK Maxx which are cotton on one side and thin towelling on the other, and I love them! They wrap around me really well (and there's plenty of me to wrap around), and they dry really quickly too.
