Do I have to refund eBay buyer who paid over 2 weeks ago but is not coming to collect the item?

Buyer is being very flakey and vague and non communicative about when they are coming to collect the item that they already paid for via PayPal.

i was selling the damn things to free up space so it’s very annoying I still have them!

i don’t really want to refund and re list. Can I give a deadline? I did say if they weren’t collected I would need to dispose of them but not sure if I have a right to do that and keep the money?

But effectively I’m storing their item for them.
however they have my home address now so could rock up in a couple of months and demand the item I suppose?

Refund and relist would be my advice. Saves the trouble of them showing up demanding the item etc

I wouldnt accept Paypal for collection items for a start-you are opening yourself up to a risk of an INR case and you will lose the money and the item as you cannot prove tracked delivery.

You cannot keep the money and the item, no. They have 30 days to open INR in ebay, but 180 days in Paypal. You will lose your fees if you lose the case. Worse yet, if they open a chargeback with their card issuer and you dispute and lose, ebay will charge you £45 costs on top of lost fees.

Much better to mutually cancel, get your fees back and relist. Accept cash only on collection.

You can't keep the money and the item, just refund them and relist it

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/05/2022 12:04

Why would they pay in advance to then collect? Surely all in person items should be paid then and there?

Although the buyer is being a twat, you cannot keep their money.

I’d refund and relist on gumtree or Facebook marketplace. I don’t know why but I’ve always had bad experiences with people collecting on eBay.

Ok thanks everyone. I’ll give a deadline and then refund. Just so annoying and a waste of time. Agree it’s odd they paid promptly.
However these days I’m not sure you can specify cash only I think you have to accept PayPal and there’s a thing now where they scan a code or you do, to provide evidence that it was collected. So I wasn’t too worried about that aspect.

I know it’s odd but I don’t like on Facebook marketplace how it’s public and people I know can see what I’m selling

You can specify cash for collection only items on the listing. It is the only method I will accept if I am not posting the item.

I agree its infuriating, it does hapoen sometimes ( I had someone do this once on a cupboard. I specified collection only because, you know, its a cupboard-someone still bid from over 200 miles away and wanted me to arrange freight delivery. It is annoying). Make sure you add them to your blocked bidders list as well.
