To ask what you do when you have nothing to do

Very strange question...but what do you do when you have nothing to do?!

For context, I am relatively busy. I work 4 days, have 2 year old, have a relatively large house to keep on top of. Don't have a cleaner, cook from scratch 80% of time. I recently gave up some bad habits - social media, scrolling on the Internet and...vaping! I never did the latter anywhere near my child but wfh full time meant it had reached epic proportions. Usually, when I had nothing to do, I would sit down for 10 minutes, scroll and vape. This is no longer an option. Similarly, when child is entertaining themselves for 10 minutes and you have nothing to clean/cook....what do you do?!

I already read a lot. I guess I'm struggling to remember what I used to do back in the day when there were no smart phones (I'm 35) to constantly divert my attention. And I really mean those pockets of 10 minutes here and there, not time to have a bath/go out to do a hobby etc.

Also, giving up these habits has made me realise I'm not quite as busy as I thought I was.....

Oh yes and write in my Bullet Journal, which is mostly an organisational activity but also kind of a pastime.

10 minutes here and there?

Doesn't everybody have that? Or is this one of those ‘competitive busy-ness’ threads?

Notthatbusy · 07/05/2022 11:53

Well yes, that's my point. And since I gave up bad habits I have a lot more of those 10 minutes than I previously presumed!

Honestly can't believe that there's people out there who think they're under pressure for 'only' having 25hrs child free a week to do a food shop and laundry!

Inasec24 · 19/11/2022 18:15

I don't think I ever don't have anything to do. There's always some housework or sorting out indoors or shopping to do and definitely always work to catch up on. And the kids always need something. But when I have down time I scroll my phone, message friends, watch TV, plan something, read a book.

I don’t always do something. It’s ok to just sit and be. Otherwise, I love watching the birds, listening to an audiobook, guided meditations & breathing exercises.

When I have nothing to do I just do nothing.

If I want something to do I play mindless word games or come on mn

I tend to waste time online so not much help! Walk my dog, so steps (always on a diet!), play with my dog. My life does revolve around tech, work all day on a laptop, breaks on a phone, evening on a phone / watching TV
