Loose dog AIBU

I'm sat inside, my cat is outside pottering about
Woman is walking her dog opposite, it pulled, she let go off the lead and the dog has run straight across the road and gone for my cat
Was IBU to shout to tell her to get hold of her dog? She couldn't run so was shouting it (which it ignored) and she couldn't keep hold of it on a lead

I've grabbed the dog by the lead and returned it back to her and told her if she can't hold on to the lead and stop it running blindly across the road then she shouldn't be walking it
Spaniel type, not a giant hefty thing!
Second time this has happened (different dogs) and my elderly cat is getting pissed off at actually having to run Grin

So dog on lead runs across road to cat, car hits it or causes an accident.

Dogs by the road need to be under control..I gave accident my hit a chihuahua which somehow survived ok after a bump with my (moving) tyres. Owner freely admitted it was not my fault - think he hoped I had taken it out.

Nearly hit a lab as well, loose at the side of a busy road- owner on the other side.

That's what I'm concerned for too. Not even so much the cat but I WFH (facing the road) which is why I saw what happened and I really don't want it to get hit either
It's one of those side roads that's quiet ish but when cars come down, they fly down it
Hopefully it was just a one off, it was on a short lead with a loop at the end so not a daft extending thin one or anything

I think you are being unreasonable. The dog pulled and she dropped the lead! She first do it on purpose, it was an accident, nobody was hurt. Stop being so dramatic

Yeah I agree with this. I have a little dog but she is strong and can sometimes randomly dart after birds. Last year I was really ill and recovering took a few months, I could manage hobbling round with her on a lead but wouldn't have managed chasing after her. I wasn't working when ill so couldn't afford a dog walker, what was I supposed to do rehome her because I temporarily couldn't give chase if I accidentally dropped the lead? You have no idea what was going on and why she didn't chase after it. Really there was no harm done, it was a total non-event.

NC since but came back to report the dog (ON lead) has got away twice more and run blindly across the road to my garden while again the owner yells come here at it (and it ignores her)
Today a car had to emergency stop, it nearly went under the wheels and the car owner got out and shouted a lot (I was inside so couldn’t hear much) but the woman driving seemed really upset which I can’t blame them for as she must have been shocked
hopefully that’s the end of it now as it’s getting to a point where it WILL get hit by a car if it keeps running across the road
it’s a side road but fairly busy and metres away from a busy B road

A dog that suddenly darts should be on a shock absorbing leash and a control harness/head collar for it's own safety as well as other members of the public.

Sudden jerks on the neck can cause serious injury to dogs.

I have a young, strong dog who can suddenly dart if he spots something exciting hence he is walked on a proper harness so I have full control even when he loses control of himself.

There is no excuse for not having the proper equipment to control your dog.
