Childminder trust

squareheadcut · 10/01/2008 22:00

i think the childminder does not trust me. i asked her for her registration number as need to give it to the working tax credit people and she said it was like giving me her pin number and made some excuses and never got back to me. also i had to give her a retainer fee of 60 pounds before she has done any childminding. i am leaving my kid with her starting mid jan, paying her money in advance - and she doesn't want to give me her registration number. surely it's me that should not trust her. what shall i do? can't back out as she has taken money - maybe she will turn out alright??? need advice please. aibu to be worried about whether this arrangement is going to work?

Hi girls. Just a thought and giving her the benefit of the doubt, is she a new cm SHC? If so, she may still be a bit unsure of how to do things. For example, she may have heard about the fraud aspect of her reg number and she's being over cautious?

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 22:41

Search on postcode you should be able to work ou

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 22:42

here?

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2008 22:43

Yes, you can work it out, without a reg number. I've read the CM's who lives opposite me!

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 22:43

the closest to her postcode will come up first - it should be her (iyswim)

squareheadcut · 10/01/2008 22:46

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 22:48

Does it sound like her (ie house type/area/description etc)

squareheadcut · 10/01/2008 22:50

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 22:51

Do any of the other 10 look nicer ( bit mean asking that but you never know?)

squareheadcut · 10/01/2008 22:54

good idea i'll look !

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2008 22:56

I think if she dosn't give it to you tomorrow, then there is a problem. It may be that she has been bitten before and as far as she's concerned, even if you have paid a retainer of £60, there's nothing to stop you taking her number and doing a runner.

Aren't I understanding and kind tonight! However, we'll rip her to shreds tomorrow if she doesn't comply!

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2008 22:58

Don't take it a read though that because one is satisfactory and one is outstanding, she'll be any better though. I'm satisfactory and I'm the Best, I tell you, the Best! Seriously though, you get points deducted for paperwork these days, so its probably got nothing to do with the care of mindees.

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 23:01

& I'm Outstanding but can't make a bottle of formula (doncha know )

"got nothing to do with the care of mindees"...Maureen tut tut you must mean "got nothing MUCH to do with the care of mindees"

squareheadcut · 10/01/2008 23:01

thx so much for all your advice feel much better going to bed now thx again !!!

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2008 23:06

Yeah summit like that! I think I meant, you could be marked down on paper work even though you are fantastic with the kids, so therefore nothing to do with them.

Can't make formula? I can't remember actually! It used to be one level spoonful to one ounce of water?

KatyMac · 10/01/2008 23:14

It still does (it's a pink/purple/yellow measuring scoop now)

I knew what you meant

catsmother · 11/01/2008 09:44

Smee .... I know you have to give the CM's registration number to the IR for Tax Credits (I used CMs for years) but I understood that Tax Credit fraud was pretty difficult to pull off as surely the IR must cross reference with the CM concerned (as in, "CM X, can you confirm that Mrs X uses your services for X hours a week") ?

Otherwise, what's to stop people (even those who are genuinely using a CM already) falsely claiming that their childcare costs are much higher than they really are ? Surely the IR must tally claims against the CM's declared earnings (on which they'd have to pay tax, so no advantage to them in claiming they're earning more than they really are).

Or am I being simplistic ? ..... does the IR not do any of these checks ...... in which case, a fraudster could make up any old number.

KatyMac · 11/01/2008 09:49

The IR checks some - in 4.5 yrs I have had 2 forms each covering 6 months.......so they don't check many

But if we think someone has run off with our number we can report them

But they don't cross reference as a normal exercise (as far as I know)

catsmother · 11/01/2008 09:56
Shock
saltire · 11/01/2008 09:57

I ahve had 2 seperate cases of people using my number to get tax credits. One of them was still claiming even though she owed me over £100. it got messy and went to court. All the other parents I minded for used tax credit but no one ever asked me to confirm

shoshe · 11/01/2008 11:56

I have have had one check up from Tax Credits and that was somebody was still using my number although they now lived in Liverpool and I lived in Dorset!

I cant believe with all the fraud their still isn't a way we can notify tax credit office of who we have on tax credits and when they leave.

I did try to phone once, was told, they were not interested, it was up to the parents not me to inform them!!!

Ubergeekian · 11/01/2008 12:26

Sounds well dodgy. Steer clear, and report her to the council so they can investigate.
