To ask if you read the acknowledgements at the end of a book

Just finished a book on kindle. Only 59% of the book was complete. I thought something had gone wrong but no...the rest of the pages are acknowledgements nearly half the book! I never read these, does anyone?

Always read the acknowledgments. I love reading the background and noting the connections. I've been thanked in the acknowledgments which was unexpected but lovely.

It very much depends on the impact the books has had on me.

If it's a nothing kind of book I won't bother if, on the other hand, it's a book that's touched me deeply or I've really enjoyed I will look though them just out of interest and almost in a way, to 'stretch' out the time I get to spend with the book.

If I've really enjoyed a book I will also Google the author just to find out what else they've written or done

@TeaAndStrumpets well we know who to blame thanks to the acknowledgments. Thanks a lot Doris!

StrawberrySquash · 05/05/2022 11:51

I skim them. 59% finished is just silly though!

SarahAndQuack · 05/05/2022 13:07

I wouldn't bloody read 41% of a books' worth! Blimey.

I like reading them if I think it's likely I'll recognise a name because I like the connections. Also if it's an academic book and I don't know the author, reading the acknowledgments is the quickest way to tell whether it's likely to be worth reading or not - chances are if they're full of effusive thanks to people I think are boring writers, it'll be boring too.

Hardly ever

Riverlee · 05/05/2022 13:21

Sometimes I’ll start reading them, and if they’re interesting will carry on.

Goldfishmountainclimber · 05/05/2022 14:57

Yes, I always read them.
