To worry about my blood results

I haven’t had a period in five months, so I had some tests taken last week. I also had my thyroid checked because I’ve gained a lot of weight (even though I am greedy). Anyway, thyroid came back fine but they’ve told me to come in to talk about my hormone results. They don’t tell me anything over the phone.. so I’m just a little worried. Obviously if they’re waiting a week it’s nothing urgent but I have no idea what odd hormone results could mean and I’m desperate to know if anyone’s had experience and what it was?

Can you log on to the app and see the results?

Hi, it could be PCOS. I have recently been diagnosed, have a 3yo DD and pregnant with 2nd DC, both naturally conceived. I have the “atypical” type of PCOS - I.e I am not overweight, don’t have any male pattern hair growth or any acne issues etc. Internally I don’t even have any cysts! It’s purely my blood work that they have used to diagnose it in the end - after years of on/off periods with no other reason. I have raised testosterone and raised LH levels, hence the diagnosis. I was only diagnosed in March this year, 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant again. With my first daughter I was just being investigated before I fell pregnant, so they didn’t pick it up again until we were TTC no 2. Every chance it could be that, it’s nothing to worry about and something lots of women live with, and are still able to have families etc.
here to chat if you need anything at all, try not to worry x

My periods stopped and I had blood tests which showed I had high levels of the hormone prolactin. Further tests showed this to be caused by a small growth on my pituitary gland called a prolactinoma. It was easily treated with medication. It happened to coincide with us deciding to try for a baby and within two weeks of going on the medication I was pregnant.

Sounds like this could be a possibility for you. Do try not to overthink things until your appointment. It could be any number of things, many of which are easily treatable.

we don't know what it is doc wants to talk to you about, they want to answer your questions far better than we can. Most health things are minor, ordinary & can be dealt with.

How old are you?

I've called the surgery before and asked the receptionist for my results. She's always obliged, not sure how common that is though...

alittlebitembarassing · 04/05/2022 22:02

@Vintagecreamandcottagepie im 27. The receptionist refused to tell me anything other than that the doctor needs to discuss my hormone results with me! Very frustrating

I know it's a worry but they wouldn't leave it a week if it was anything to worry about
