Washing detergent eczema prone skin

Sorry to post in AIBU, but I need quick advice. My daughter has pretty bad eczema across her entire body which might be due to the washing detergent we're currently using. Does anyone have any recommendations?

My DP suffers with eczema, and the only thing that doesn’t upset his skin is Persil non-bio liquid detergent, no fabric softener.
I think it’s just a case of finding one that works for you as everyone’s skin reacts differently.
Sorry your DD is suffering!!

Fairy non bio is a good choice.

WhereisWallyFFS · 04/05/2022 16:30

You could try Eco egg - we have switched recently and like them a lot. Loads cheaper and far less waste. I react badly to most detergents and so far so good.

Would also be worthwhile seeing a dermatologist to rule out foods that are triggering it. I don't have parfum in any of my products, moisturise straight after every shower and this is usually enough to keep it under control. Barrier creams on the areas that are prone to breakouts when/if your daughter goes swimming. Oh and cotton lined washing up gloves. There's also moisturisering non alcohol hand sanitiser I send my daughter into school with cos her wee hands and arms were roaring red over this pandemic.

Coming on to say exactly this-well almost-use Persil non bio capsules.
No fabric softener.
I can use napisan which I love despite my DC being grown up and also ecover powder bleach for whites are all ok.

Skin Salve does a laundry powder that works really well for some people skinsalve.co.uk/products/laundry-powder

I have eczema and use Boots Sensitive Skin laundry liquid.

We use an ecoegg or soapnuts. Wouldn't go back to washing powder.

Meraas · 08/06/2022 22:36

Which washing powder are you using?

Are you using fabric conditioner? I’d stop using that immediately.

oznia · 08/06/2022 22:37

Fairy non bio

oznia · 08/06/2022 22:37

No fabric conditioner and always give washing an extra rinse

Ardmano · 08/06/2022 22:38

Surcare seems to work best for us but our problem was itching rather than excema iyswim. Everyone is different. I love the smell of fairy non bio but it always made me itch :/

MrsDooDaa · 08/06/2022 22:40

Surcare works for us also. And no fabric conditioner.

bellamountain · 08/06/2022 22:44

Fairy non bio pods and they smell nice too. Child's Farm is also very good for eczema (as a moisturiser).

ScottishBeeswax · 08/06/2022 23:09

Surcare and don't use fabric conditioner

Hankunamatata · 08/06/2022 23:11

Boots sensitive skin was only one I could tolerate when really bad.
In my experience - Powders were better than liquid, conditioner was a no no and always did extra rinsed twice after wash cycle

Hankunamatata · 08/06/2022 23:13

Only other powder was sainsburys non bio powder.

Magnalux · 08/06/2022 23:38

Add an extra rinse cycle at the end of the wash it helped a lot in my experience

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 08/06/2022 23:47

Make sure you don’t use fabric conditioner.

boomfloom · 08/06/2022 23:47

We use Surcare powder and Surcare fabric conditioner. All washes are put on extra rinse. But it depends on what's causing the eczema. I'm allergic to five things according to patch tests but intolerant to many more (inc many perfumes, colours and flavours) as I had found out through trial and error as well as exclusion diets. So to keep my eczema under control, it's not enough to have additive-free cosmetics and detergents. I also need a "clean" diet. It took me decades to work it all out.

Wolfiefan · 08/06/2022 23:53

Avoid any liquid with methylisothiazolinone.
Def an extra rinse.
