Sometimes I find it hard to just be completely direct, I am scared of offending or being too demanding or whatever so I try to find more subtle or polite ways to say things.
Does anyone else do this? I'm sure it's good sometimes but I have always been a bit scared of offending people of saying too much.
Do you think it's better to just be direct and say exactly what it is?

Interesting post. I struggle with this at work, especially with my English/British colleagues who are polite and don't want to offend others, and therefore a conversation with them feels long-winded and a bit like beating around the bush. Direct messages are easy to grasp.
Same with emails too. Some people write two paragraphs for what can be conveyed in two sentences. Be direct and keep it short and simple.

A comment of a work colleague helped me with this. I work in Germany where the culture and language are just the opposite of ours in this regard. Colleague said to my boss that he wished I'd be more precise and that he didn't need to hear my stream of consciousness every time he spoke to me.
That lead to a new me. Kind of.
Imagine you're communicating with Germans!
