To be annoyed at new job?

I started a new job two weeks ago. At the interview and job offer stages I was told my training period would be 3 months. There is a lot to learn, and the job is quite complicated.

So, I started the job and have had some initial training, but there are a lot - and I mean a lot - of things that I have not been been shown or taught yet, and have been told by my manager that I won't be shown or taught for a while as there are other things to learn first.

However other staff members are starting to get annoyed with me that I can't do X, Y or Z yet. There is one thing in particular that my manager has said will be the last thing I'm trained in, and to pass all of these things onto one person. This person keeps getting annoyed with me when I pass the work over as I've been told.

Even the overall manager got annoyed with me today as I couldn't do some things he wanted me to do as I haven't been shown how to do them and did not have a clue how.

I'm finding it quite upsetting being at work. I work hard, and am a quick learner, but just feel stupid and useless all the time. My manager is happy with how well I've done so far, and says I'm doing really well, but I just feel like everyone else thinks I'm useless.

I'm in the same boat. My boss has been in hospital for the last two weeks. I'm totally winging it and hate it.

OP it's 2 weeks, it takes at least 90 days to settle in and start to build confidence and competence in any new role ❤️

Follow your training plan, make your notes (my colleagues refer to my green notebook as mrsmacmc's work bible!) and ask lots of questions. As long as your immediate manager is happy with your progress hold onto that.

The other members of staff and the overall manager sound like hard work, how can they expect you to know absolutely everything about a complex role in 2 weeks? I'm almost 2 years in my current role and still find things I have a knowledge gap around. When they are getting frustrated with you ask them to explain / show you the task / who to approach for guidance or where you can read more about it.

You got this!

Are they actually annoyed at you or annoyed at the situation? It's easy to take things more personally than they're intended, especially when we're feeling vulnerable, but it's normally better to try and see it a bit more dispassionately. Acknowledge that it's a pain. Say things like - "I'm looking forward to getting trained on that, it's obviously hugely useful. Sorry you're stick with it for now." and concentrate on all the things you are doing well at and impressing your manager with. You'll settle in better soon and this will all be in the past.

Even the annoying co-workers who are unable to separate you from the role they want you to do are going to forget about this stage eventually (probably as soon as another new person comes along and they have something new to grumble about).

When you have to pass work over, email the person being passed to ccing your line manager in. Just cover yourself.

Are they actually getting annoyed? Or are you thinking oh this must be annoying for them. If they are actually getting annoyed then I'd say something like would they like you to hand all these things over at once? Or as they crop up? As you want to try and make it easy for them.

They’re not annoyed at you they’re annoyed at the situation.

New joiners are annoying
We had one last year, I had to hold her hand for MONTHS, but hey you know what, she's a great member of the team now.
