To not want to pay for one day delivery if I'm an Amazon Prime member?

I'm a long time Amazon Prime subscriber and always understood that next day delivery was part of Amazon Prime membership wherever possible.
I just ordered something from Amazon but the Prime member option is 2 days, or else I could have paid for 1 day delivery at an extra cost of £2.99.

Has it changed? Are they now charging extra for 1 day delivery, and downgrading Prime members to 2 day delivery?

It reminds me that I really need to review the various netflix/ Amazon subscriptions as they seem to go up but what they offer seems to get worse...

That’s shit. I have noticed some prime items now having 2-3 day delivery but never seen the option of paying more

it’s a bit like the tv bundle. Stuff like outlander which used to be free but now they’ve introduced another paid for tier. I can’t even watch old outlander episodes now

I’ve not noticed this. One day is standard and lots of items will do same day delivery if I order before about lunchtime.

I’m in London though, maybe it’s different depending where you are.

I live in the country and the majority of items are still next day delivery, as long as you order before the daily cutoff. There have always been some prime items which take longer, but you know that before you complete the checkout.

Are these actually items sold by and fulfilled by Amazon? If not then they can take longer.

I balance up the time and fuel it would take me to go and buy things myself, and the possibility of things being out of stock when I get to the shops, when deciding to order from Amazon. Knowing someone will bring items to the door which are definitely available is sometimes more important than waiting an extra 24 hours for the delivery.

Is it despatched by x/sold by Amazon or is it Amazon for both? I ordered trainers on Amazon that were despatched from Puma so the delivery prices were set by Puma themselves.

What I find is that sometimes it says it will deliver same day by 10pm, so I order it and then it changes to the following day by 10pm.

ChessieFL · 03/05/2022 12:16

I’ve never seen the option to pay more for next day delivery. Sometimes the prime option isn’t next day but that’s always clear and usually it is one day.

TheSonjaMorgan · 03/05/2022 12:16

You can search items for the ones which will give next day delivery. There is no additional charge when I look.

Alwayshoovering · 03/05/2022 12:16

It changed years ago that prime didn't guarantee you next day delivery. I think they were done by the ASA or something for saying all prime delivery was next day and had to stop saying and advertising it as a benefit

Yes, I meant to say this in my post above - it would only be a Marketplace seller, not Amazon, which would charge separately for delivery. OP needs to check if the item is sold by and fulfilled by Amazon.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 03/05/2022 12:18

It depends on the seller. Is it a purely Amazon delivery, not a third-party seller?

I noticed this, then realised it defaults to next day when you go to checkout. If you tap the delivery timescales though, you can change it back to same day referred to as 'rush shipping'.

Looking again, I'd switched from a combo sold by Amazon to the 1lb ones which are not shipped by Amazon, so I guess that accounts for the difference. As you were....

That looks like it's a private seller and not Prime.

LetitiaLeghorn · 03/05/2022 12:28

Sorry. Cross posted.

Skyeheather · 03/05/2022 12:35

I think it depends where you live, where the item is and the delivery method. Lots of things on my wish list are available for delivery tomorrow.

I ordered two tops last week, delivery was 2 days which I was fine with as the top is for my holiday so no rush - it was delivered by Royal Mail 48 hence the two days. They seem to use RM a lot these days.

LetitiaLeghorn · 03/05/2022 12:40

The article the op was buying wasn't from amazon prime. It was from a private seller. That's why it was a two day delivery.
