So...

DS is 9, its the first year he has fasted every day and he is very pleased with himself.

We live in a predominantly white area with a very small muslim community. I am unsure what to do... should i send him to school tomorrow or ket him celebrate another day of Eid?

AIBU to send him to school on the second day of Eid?

Thanks in advance... and happy Eid to those who celebrate, and those who don't 😊

I would so like it if we made Eid and Divali public holidays. Last time the subject of instituting a new public holiday came up, Westminister were pushing for a Trafalgar Day in October (October, ffs) before dropping it completely.
(I'm an atheist, btw, but love Christmas.)

Agnostic here and I would support this 100%. Diwali would break up the long stretch between summer and Christmas. With Eid being moveable it would be interesting to have a non-fixed Bank Holiday.

Happy Eid, OP!

In regards to the third day @medicmummm At the schools I've worked at, students were only entitled to one day for Eid so tomorrow will be fine and should go down as an 'R' (religious observance) but if you were to keep him off Wednesday too, it would be an unauthorised absence.

Pinktruffle · 02/05/2022 22:51

Also Eid Mubarak!

eKitKat38 · 02/05/2022 22:55

Eid Mubarak! All 3 of mine are not going to school tomorrow (ages: 15, 12 and 10). Both school (secondary and primary) are expecting Muslim children to be off tomorrow, but I will report them all absent for religious reasons in the morning anyway. Back on Wednesday!

Mykittensmittens · 02/05/2022 22:56

My school is 70% Muslim.

the message is loud and clear. If Eid fell today, they would be expecting attendance tomorrow. No authorised absence.

I work in a C of E school and our
Muslim pupils are given an authorised absence for tomorrow

There were high stake pre A level exams at DDs inner city school. Seems a little unfair.

Today I mean.

Hi everyone thanks for the advice.

DS was very pleased with his surprise day off. He did however insist on dragging me to the gold driving range 😐 and we then went to an ice cream establishment 😉

Thanks for the help 😊 hope you all had great days too.
