Second hand bathroom suite

Well, I finally got my 'tiki hut (Victorian terrace) last summer and now I'm slowly trying to do it up on a tight budget.

I've been offered a full bathroom suite on freecycle but friends say it's gross (the idea of a second hand bathroom not the suite itself). The suite is in my preferred style and good condition, I'd just need to collect. Obviously it would save a few hundred on buying a new suite, save waste etc. The current suite I have is functional but very tired with unfixable damage from previous owner's Tennant's.

Am I also missing something about why I shouldn't take it and use it?

So...

IABU to take a second hand bathroom, it's gross.
YANBU to save hundreds of pounds, and the planet, just give it a good clean.

Absolutely, why wouldn't you?!

I am a charity shop, eBay, Freecycle fiend. Very few people know. My old boss used to say I was very 'John Lewis'. If only he knew....

@aprofoundhistoricalnovalty I'm already working on the kitchen. I'm going free standing when I finally rip out the current fitted monstrosity (to me it's ugly but I will be offering it free as it's still solid just not to my taste). I paid £16 for a Welsh dresser on eBay and got free dining table off freecycle. Just need a sink, tiles and cooker and I'll be getting it done. Dreaming of a stoves... But it will take some saving.

I've had such a good run on freebies recently the house is really starting to feel like mine.

I would accept it gratefully. I love period features and would be happy and grateful to accept good quality second hand one. If you soak taps in white wine vinegar it gets rid of any lime scale build up. They will shine up lovely after too.

The green, salmon pink and yellow sites for for 100s of pounds second hand…

Bar keepers friend is your friend here! It removes the most stubborn deposits and gets sinks and taps looking like new. Good luck with your new bathroom OP, just think of the eco-credentials you’ve made by deciding to re-use!

Does your friend carry around her own toilet seat with her when visiting friends or using a public loo? Beyond bizarre... Hope the bathroom works out; post photos once its fitted!

Put on some rubber gloves give it a scrub or jet wash it in the garden. You can clean a suite more thorough when it’s not fitted.

It's here! It will be in the garden for a few days until I've had chance to clean it. Then I'll store it in the spare room until I get tiles and plumber money.

I will need new taps and loo seat but still very happy.

In other good bathroom news, I checked under the current L-shaped bath and the tiles go far enough that the floor can stay. 😁

Do it. I would. Nothing a good clean won't sort out. Honestly people are awful. You do what you needFlowers
