I asked DH to pick up "x" from the supermarket and he bought "y". What bizarre swaps or substitutes have you had?

Asked DH to pick up short sleeved school blouses. He claimed there were none and came home with several reduced Easter eggs instead!

What strange or inappropriate things have you had substituted?

I sent dh to Aldi for some disposable bbqs, he came back with none as they'd sold out but he bought a wetsuit. He does absolutely no sport at all that might require a wetsuit but he just fancied trying it because it was cheap. So I made him wear it in the bath. Fucking Aldi.

Sent husband to buy peanuts for the birds (toddler likes to fill the bird feeders).

Came back with a carrier bag full of Waitrose finest mixed almonds and some harissa macadamias.

I was studying for my finals and was super super stressed. I asked DH to bring home Dr Oetker pizza baguettes, he brought home mini pizza's. I know sounds similar but I don't like mini pizza's I was more than a little unreasonably upset by it. I was angry because I knew the local supermarket had them but he couldn't be bothered and just went to the garage. Again I was super super stressed and have since apologised! I may have cried. He still likes to remind me of it.

Asda substituted a lettuce with a cucumber. I had also ordered a cucumber on the order.

Similar to this, sent DH food shopping with a list. Had asked for baking potatoes and veg, meaning see what looked nicest. We always had potatoes and at least two veg with a meal. He came back with baking potatoes and a bag of normal potatoes! I sent him straight back out.

That is not substitution.
Thats just a matter of them not having the item you wanted and he thought'well whilst im here i might buy myself a treat'...

I once asked DH to pick up a dozen eggs. He came back with 6 because 'they'd run out of the boxes of 12'. To be fair it was kind of worth it to watch the slow dawning of realisation on his face when I asked him why he didn't just get two boxes of six 😄(also it's totally something I would do but I didn't say that 🤣)

Day 2 post c section asked my husband to go out and get me nipple shields from Boots or the like as DS was not latching on/inverted nip etc

He came back to the hospital with nipple stickers/covers all proud of himself for getting them

I. Nearly. Died. Laughing

Like I nearly opened the stitches on my wound from howling..still have the packet in the drawer to give me a laugh

Asked him to get me sunblush tomatoes in oil (showed pic) he returned with a jar of tomato puree. Oh well I guess there was tomatoes involved.

There was a thread on here once where the OP had written ‘dairy milk’ on the shopping list, meaning chocolate, and the husband came back with two pints of milk.

The debate on whether he was unreasonable raged for pages….

I went to my friends house for a cup of tea and a catch up and came back with a dog and 2 cats 10 years ago if that counts? We’ve lost both cats now but the dog is still going strong!

My dad was supposed to pick up 6 tins of whole tomatoes (for a stew) and wasn't paying attention, grabbed 6 tins from the veg aisle with pictures of pinky-red round things on them, presuming they were tomatoes.

That was 6 tins of beets that got donated to the food drive.

Asda recently subbed salad leaves for tomatoes, cucumbers x2 to 2 bags of tomatoes, spring onions to yep tomatoes, oh and the tomatoes I'd ordered to different tomatoes. Interesting salad.

I went to the pet shop for fish food and came home with two Guinea Pigs.

Ha, almost the same! I went to the garden centre for a water butt, went into the fish section to have a look as well (had tropical fish) and ended up buying the sad and lonely looking guineapig that was on the way out of the pet area!

Was a fabulous guineapig, that one.

After having dc1 I sent dp to get some heavy period pads for the bleeding. He came back with tena lady incontinence pants. Sent him back and he came back with daily lite pads. I reverted to the tena lady!
