DH shopping for wedding outfit on the morning of our friends wedding ๐Ÿ™„

Whatโ€™s the most annoying thing your OH has done? This has got to make the top 5 of extremely annoying things DH has done. We have a wedding tomorrow and Iโ€™ve been asking him for weeks (months!) to try on his suit to check it fitted him okay. He just tried it on now. It goes nowhere near him ๐Ÿ™The suit is an old one, over 10 years old. Now massive panic about what heโ€™s going to do. Itโ€™s Sunday evening and bank holiday tomorrow. Heโ€™s now going off shopping with his mum in the morning leaving me to clean the house/organise everything and look after our two small DS. My folks are watching the boys in our house all day so stuff needs to be organised and Iโ€™ll need to get ready myself but with no one to watch our DS. Iโ€™m fuming! Grr.

Had to shoe shopping the morning of a wedding for DH as he had forgot his shoes and we were 5hrs from home.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 01/05/2022 23:45

I worked in a department store a few years back. One Saturday morning I had groom, best man and 2 ushers buying shirts, ties and trousers at 11am for a 3pm wedding! Grin

What needs doing in the morning that can't be done today? You should have told him what needed to be done (if he can't figure it out for himself), and then gone off for a bath tonight in peace while he sorted it. And tell him he can take the kids shopping with him tomorrow. It's annoying that he's been so unorganised, but why does it all fall down to you having to run around in the morning cleaning and organising stuff?

FatOaf · 02/05/2022 07:15

Annoying but at least it should be fairly easy for him to just pick up a suit

Hardly any high-street shops sell men's suits in-store any more. M&S don't; Matalan, where I used to buy suits for work, don't; Next do but theirs are unlikely to fit someone who's put on a lot of weight. There are shops where you can collect them but you have to order them online in advance.

Really? DH has brought 2 mens suits in store in M&S in the past month, and 1 in Next.

ReadyToMoveIt · 02/05/2022 08:09

And heโ€™d also put on a lot of weightโ€ฆ gone from a 30 waist to a 34. The OP didnโ€™t say heโ€™s now obese!

We realised this about a month ago when we tried to get DH a new funeral suit. John Lewis and M&S had hardly any choice, Next had quite a few, but only one in black, most were blue/beige/checked etc. Moss Bros were appointment only, and similarly blue/checked/fashion suits.
We ended up in a wildly expensive independent menโ€™s shop, where the man said they are so, so busy because all the high street shops have reduced their tailoring so much with people WFH.

The M&S in my local city still has a substantial suit selection. I was in there last Tuesday!

Eucalyptusbee · 02/05/2022 08:29

Very annoying!! But hope you still have fun

Maydaysoonenough · 02/05/2022 08:32

My mil (to be) rang the suit hire shop to try and change the choice dh had made for our wedding! She found herself uninvited!

Must vary across the country, then. My local (medium-size) M&S has none. The (big) M&S in the next town has none. Both branches had a decent range of suits before lockdown.

ReadyToMoveIt · 02/05/2022 09:06

I suppose they stock them where the demand is.

balalake · 02/05/2022 09:07

I hope it is a one-off and not indicative of someone who leaves everything to the last minute. Someone's lack of planning should not constitute someone else's emergency.

Hope the wedding is lovely.

gabsdot45 · 02/05/2022 09:09

The morning that my BIL (DHs brother) was married I had to go with one of the groomsmen to buy his "going away ",suit and shoes because he hadn't got around to it.

Summersdreaming · 02/05/2022 09:13

He should take the youngest or the one that gets under your feet the most. Divide and conquer. Forget cleaning, it will still be there tomorrow. Bribe other child to sit quietly for an hour so you can get ready.

girlmom21 · 02/05/2022 09:19

You should've both done the cleaning last night.
Send him to Next. He'll be home in less than an hour.

Belledan1 · 02/05/2022 09:22

As previous poster said there is a shortage in shops. Saw a friend in Next yesterday who wanted a a prom outfit for her son and was finding it hard to get one. NEXT did have a few though. Her son very tall. Did notice lots young men in the suit section. Hope you get one. X

Surely it depends on starting point and end point.
OP didn't state her dh was now obese and unable to fit into clothes found in ordinary high street shops. Next don't just do tiny sizing!

Threetulips · 02/05/2022 09:35

DH did this, he was starting a new job on Monday and he put his suits in to the dry cleaners the week before - roll on 3:30 on Sunday and he realizes he has no suit for his first day at work!

We had to rush to the nearest shop to buy one!

Its so annoying, but Iโ€™ve always built in time for his last minuet crap! Not saying you should do that, they should Adultโ€™ themselves.

Didn't know this! I have to get DS a suit for sixth form in September. Will I have to order online and send back what doesn't fit then? He's in 30/32 school trousers but no clue about the jacket as his blazer is much too small.

Wbeezer · 02/05/2022 09:44

I suspect he will shop more efficientlh with his Mum to help and hopefully get home quickly to relieve the OP

OatmilkandCookies · 02/05/2022 09:46

I asked my DH in the weeks before our wedding that he had confirmed all the groomsmens shirts and suits fitted them and I got a confident yes.
The day before the wedding, it turned out two of them were too tight. We got married on a Monday so we had to run around the city centre all Sunday afternoon finding alternative shirts! For the wedding party! Definitely one of the dafter things my DH has done.

FirstFallopians · 02/05/2022 09:46

DH can be like this - the amount of times Iโ€™ve asked him to check something in advance only to be told โ€œItโ€™ll be grand!โ€.

Reader, it was not grand.

NerrSnerr · 02/05/2022 09:52

I don't understand why he needs his mum. If a woman needed a dress the day of a wedding I bet the mum would be asked to look after the children while the husband got ready.

If you're going to a wedding all day what housework needs to be done that can't wait?

saleorbouy · 02/05/2022 09:52

Women like to make time to shop and enjoy it. Men don't so it gets put on the back burner while they find better things to do.
