To want Elon Musk to pay my gas and electricity bills?

Ok, so this is tongue in cheek and really just a rant but HOW are people affording life at the moment?

Just entered my readings for gas and electricity and monthly DD has increased from £217 to £471.... me and OH both work full time. We both already do a 2nd job each which we fit around children etc and there's barely anything left at the end of each month. Now we're expected to magic another £200 a month out of nowhere on top of rising costs of food etc
I know it's the same for everyone but seeing the news that Elon Musk has £44billion to purchase fucking twitter just makes me feel a bit sick. We work so hard and it's purely to keep our heads above water with maybe a takeaway or cinema trip once a month as a 'treat' Now having to cut back even further so that means literally no treats/ holidays/ days out. Yes we can cancel Netflix etc and reduce any form of unnecessary spending and we'll probably survive somehow and yes I know there are people probably worse off but but my god it's doesn't make it any less frustrating that people have that sort of money to throw about on social media platforms while there are so many out there struggling just to survive

I bought a fake oodie and slashed my gas bill by half last month. The second DD has gone to bed we turn off the heating. The fake oodie keeps me very warm. I also make more oven dinners than cooking on gas.

Gas is cheaper than electric so oven dinners probably cost more than using the hob

Yanbu. I feel the time. Bit of a squeeze for some (more of us each day).

My fixed tarriff comes to an end this month and scottish power were trying to get me to fix for the next year with them from £166 to £572 a month! I then submitted my readings on the 31st march and they kindly dropped my fixed rate to £463 a month! I have just submitted readings again 2 days ago and noticed i was £600 in credit!! I then received an email this morning to say that on the 1st of june my direct debit will be £81 a month!!! Slight difference from the original quoted £572!

There's an advert on TV : the cheapest and greenest energy is the energy we don't use.

Your post has no humour in it though.

Not sure why so many are posting about their individual bills.

Everyones bills are same.

Elon Musk won't pay anyone's bills.

That seems a v. drastic rise. Try to keep on top of meter readings though having said that a lot of people are getting some extremely wild bills. R.e Elon Musk - there shouldn't be a billionaire class. Elon did not 'earn' that money etc etc.

Well as he is interested in green cars perhaps he could buy us all solar panels.I'd love them as i think they are the future but we got a quote for £7000 which we can't afford.

Yes but as we've already said it's because we've just come out of a low fixed rate tariff.

Apologies for not being funny enough for you

Because it's a public forum and they can post what they want

Clearly not

No, we've figured that

Not sure what the point of your post was?

Is Elon Musk responsible for the rise of cost in living?

Not personally no, but he is a proponent, enabler, and leading light of the capitalist systems that are causing this to happen.

Energy is a perfect example. Theoretically, if you covered 1.2% of the Sahara Desert in solar pv panels you could produce enough energy to meet global demand. And that's using current technology, not something that still needs to be invented.
Yet, no one is even considering working on a project like that because it would be "too difficult to achieve". Which is fucking bizarre when we are actively trying to work out how to colonise another planet.

How can it be considered more difficult to erect a massive solar farm on earth than to set up a colony on Mars? Clue it is not, the real reason the solar farm idea will never happen is because it is not profitable, or desirable, under current systems to provide cheap, reliable, and clean energy to the world, whereas space exploration is a literally gold mine if you get there first.
