Just hanging the washing out - loud buzzing sound. I thought there must be a swarm flying about. Part of our little apple tree is alive with wasps/bees.
What now? I guess I will need pest control as only as smallish garden (with kids) and neighbours smallish garden backing on. Feel itchy now!

That is amazing though, the wonder of nature. Your DC is very lucky to see it.

Hope you can find a beekeeper before they buzz off 🐝

Try to get your child to watch, calmly, and not be frightened of them. It’s a rare opportunity to learn something about the natural world, and bees are vital to the whole planet. Get him to look up what bees do to help provide our food.

CarrieCookie · 29/04/2022 19:18

How’s it going @Winter2020 are they still there?

Winter2020 · 29/04/2022 20:54

Hi folks
Update. We contacted a local bee keeper and (as described by a poster earlier) he came and encouraged them to migrate into an upturned cardboard box.

I was out at the time running the kids around unfortunately but he said he put the bulk into a cardboard box and the others will migrate into it (or not) but they did. I would have loved to see him do that.

He left the box a couple of hours upside down but propped up and by the time he returned pretty much all the bees had gone into it.

The beekeeper told us it was a big swarm 3x the average size and that they would be going to a good local home in a bee friendly area.

I hope they are happy in their new home!
Thanks for your help guys

My cousin keeps bees in Kidderminster (or did: I haven't seen him for a couple of years). I think there are lots of beekeepers around there.

LightSpeeds · 29/04/2022 21:39

Wow! That's amazing. You are lucky to have witnessed that!

This is very cool!

Itwasntmeright · 29/04/2022 21:50

Just read your thread OP, it has made me smile. Well done.

PlantingTrees · 29/04/2022 21:54

That’s great! Our local fb gardening page always has someone at this time of year remind everyone to call him if we see a swarm. Because otherwise a swarm is unlikely to survive and we need to protect the bees.

NoToLandfill · 29/04/2022 21:54

Yay well done you! Happy bees :)

ChuckMater · 29/04/2022 21:59

How amazing 👏

Booboobagins · 29/04/2022 22:07

Def call a local beekeeper in, please.
