To think an optician might miss something?

Been having some light sensitivity (a bit painful to be outdoors in sunlight) and eye strain. Had an optician apptmt yesterday where she said it's probably because my prescription has changed a bit and I have an astigmatism, but I'm worried she may have missed some of the more scary stuff, uveitis for example.

AIBU? Is it worth seeing an opthalmologist?

FYI I don't suffer from migraine, so the light sensitivity isn't because of that.

Of course its possible.

However if you brought this up im sure she would have been thorough on her examination.

Could you give it a while and see if your new glasses improve it ?

Yeah I'll probably do that! The light sensitivity has just been a bit concerning, because as far as I know a too-weak prescription/astigmatism can't cause light sensitivity...

But I'll wait and see unless it gets suddenly worse.

I have astigmatism and light sensitivity. I've just googled it and got several results that suggest they can be related. I also have exotropia though which can also cause light sensitivity according to dr Google - no wonder I'm always wearing sun glasses even in the depths of winter 😂 This was missed during many eye tests over the years, only being picked up when I mentioned double vision at a recent appointment. The optician was surprised that it hadn't been picked up when I was a child. So I imagine things can be missed if not mentioned. It must be a very tricky job in that way as obviously they can't see what we can!

She definitely would have picked up on uveitis in an exam and sent you to A&E and a hospital eye clinic opthamologist. It’s a lot worse than a bit of light sensitivity so try not to worry about that.
