Hi - i've been thinking about getting a massage gun for DH for his birthday.
Does anyone have one of used one and are they actually worth the money?

We got one of the Homedics ones. It’s great. Made the mistake of taking it into work and everyone wanted me to use it on them.

I think it varies person to person, some find it benefits some feel it's a bit pointless. I have one and I love it, I spend a lot of time working at a desk and I find it helps deal with the aches and niggles caused by that, as well as helping my legs feel better after I've been for a run.

While the effects can be good they're not particularly relaxing to use, so it's more about dealing with a knot like you'd have a sports massage for, rather than the benefit of a massage you'd have at a spa if that makes sense.

thank you - is it very heavy or easy to use please?

We have a theragun which is great. It is heavy to hold though but for me the benefits outweigh the heaviness. I've used on aching muscles from exercise but also when I hurt my back and cricked my neck.

thank you all for your replies, i'm going to get one

Bought hubby one for Christmas (regular gym go-er & exerciser) & he absolutely loves it! Uses it all the time. I'd recommend getting one with various head attachments.

myceliumama · 02/05/2022 12:11

They are absolutely amazing. Literally life changing for me. My DH and I both suffer from restless leg syndrome and spending 2-3 minutes a night on our calves means that we are pet much guaranteed to have a much better sleep with less " electric ants " Climbing all over our legs. It's brilliant for soft tissue massage and I could quite happily be pummelled by it for hours on end.

I have chronic pain in my shoulder, from a dislocation over 50 years ago.
would a massage gun help, and if so, which one is best?
TIA

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/05/2022 13:11

I bought one for my DS and he says it's life changing( he has degenerative discs)

PakkaMakka · 02/05/2022 14:00

@TrashyPanda shoulders are complicated joints and if the issue is inflammation you could make it worse. Noone on here would be able to tell you if it would be fine for you or not, I'd encourage you to book a one off appointment with a qualified physio who could examine you and advise whether regular massage would likely hinder or help.

I have shoulder pain which is helped by it, but I know mine is caused by poor posture and that the massage gun helps relax the tight muscles that cause it (diagnosed and ok'd by physio!)

That's botastic @Vanquee

DS2 has a mini Homedics one for all his sports injuries. Seems fairly good.

And just realised it's a zombie thread too!

Chypre · 17/07/2023 12:01

Yes! Got one for my DH, got one for my parents, everyone loves it. I am using it every night on my tight shoulders, Theragun Mini is very small, light and manoeuvrable - don't need a second person at all.
