Pasta bake mistake

lovehearrrts · 28/04/2022 15:51

I assumed dolmio pasta bake worked the same was as home pride and you mixed the sauce with dry pasta then in the oven.

Apparently not.

It's all mixed with pancetta and already in the oven. Then I re read the jar.

Will it still work?

I've covered it with foil because it will take longer if it works, so it doesn't burn.

Annoyed 😂

It’ll be fine covered in foil and cooked a bit longer.

mynameiscalypso · 28/04/2022 15:52

I'd add a bit more water if you can too.

Coulddowithanap · 28/04/2022 15:53

I can't see why it wouldn't work the same.

Vetiver · 28/04/2022 15:54

Definitely add more water.

lovehearrrts · 28/04/2022 15:54

You add water to home pride which must be the difference.

I've covered it with foil and will keep checking it.

I just bunged it all in then glanced at the jar because I was checking I absolutely didn't need water and there it was

"Cook your choice of pasta" 😁

OP posts:
BendingSpoons · 28/04/2022 15:57

If it's meant to use cooked pasta, it will need loads more water to cook.

BendingSpoons · 28/04/2022 15:57

As an aside, what's the point of pasta bake where you have to cook the pasta first?! Twice the work!

Octomore · 28/04/2022 15:58

Yes, just add a load of water to it and leave under the foil for longer.

lovehearrrts · 28/04/2022 15:59

Will the water not spoil the sauce ?

Exactly!

I mean what a fucking stupid idea. No one wants to boil pasta when they are using a jar of pasta bake sauce.

You do need to add water about half the jar should do.

Thesearmsofmine · 28/04/2022 16:07

Urghh i hate those ones, what’s the point of them when a pasta bake from a jar is meant to be a quick shove it in the oven dinner.

I know, I just assumed pasta bake meant dry pasta in oven!!

Do you have any booze in the house? Add that.

mathanxiety · 28/04/2022 16:12

The extra liquid you throw in won't spoil the sauce.

I recommend red wine and not water.

Irishfarmer · 28/04/2022 16:22

The extra water won't spoil it but you will need it for the pasta to cook.

What's the point of anything that has more than one step, by that logic?

RB68 · 28/04/2022 16:35

Just add a jarful of hot water, mix up and let it get on, the water won't spoil the sauce as the excess fluid will be absorbed by the pasta. You might need to top it up a bit later on so its not too dry

Leftbutcameback · 28/04/2022 16:37

How much water did you add to it to start with? Up to the top of the label like homepride??

Anonymous48 · 28/04/2022 16:37

@MissusMaisel

"What's the point of anything that has more than one step, by that logic?"

I agree. I've never come across a jar of sauce that you just mix with dry pasta and put in the oven (I don't live in the UK), but I have made plenty of pasta bake type things where before I have combined all the ingredients to go in the oven I have cooked the pasta separately.

chesirecat99 · 28/04/2022 16:38

Just follow the instructions from the Home Pride sauce on how much water to add and covering the dish/cooking times (you might need to scale it if the Dolmio jar is smaller/larger and/or you used more pasta). It won't spoil the sauce. You'll probably find that water is one of the main ingredients of the sauce any way! You are just adding the water to rehydrate the dried pasta in a different way. The Home Pride recipe will have calculated how much water is needed for the pasta to absorb and the temperature/cooking time for any excess water to have evaporated.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/04/2022 16:41

I use any and all jar pasta sauces like this, mix the dry pasta with the sauce and then with enough water to come up to the top of the label on said jar. 20 minutes at 180ºc, then mix in any add ins, top with cheese and another 20 minutes in the oven.

Whiskeypowers · 28/04/2022 16:45

I’ve always cooked or at least part cooked my pasta first . Except for lasagne sheets

now I’m wondering ……..

lovehearrrts · 28/04/2022 16:46

Thanks everyone I put half a jar of water in, covered with foil and turned the oven up a little and it is cooking but taking a while.
Seems to look ok!

I've never made a pasta bake where you don't cook the pasta first - but then I've never used jar sauce for a pasta bake.

As an aside, what's the point of pasta bake where you have to cook the pasta first?! Twice the work!

Odd question. Homemade lasagne is considerably more than twice the work of chucking a jar of sauce over some dry pasta and bunging it in the oven, but I know which I'd rather have!
