Hell no- and yes I did look a bit shocked when my neighbour took her 6 yr old son to get jabbed.

Notwithittoday · 28/04/2022 12:42

Nope. Not unless more serious variants for kids turn up

Ihatethenewlook · 28/04/2022 12:42

Nope. We’ve all had Covid twice and was fine. I had the Covid jab and collapsed the next day and couldn’t get up for 3 days.

muppamup · 28/04/2022 12:42

no don't see the point. already had covid. Evidence limited of its efficacy for kids.

Lindy2 · 28/04/2022 12:43

I've booked my 11 year old in for the end of May. She'll then be due her 2nd jab at the end of August.

She's had Covid however, I'd like her to have some protection against any more severe variant that could come along. I'd also like her to be at a good level of protection for starting her new, very large, Secondary school in September and as we move back into Autumn when respiratory illnesses generally spread more.

purpleboy · 28/04/2022 12:45

I read the the hepatitis outbreak is not likely to have been caused by an adenovirus, not coronavirus. Some sources suggesting that children are more susceptible to the adenovirus due to lockdown and not encountering normal childhood diseases.

They actually don't know what is causing it, that is one theory as is Covid, so I guess we have to wait and see, but if it does turn out to be Covid related then I'll be bloody glad She got jabbed.

Echobelly · 28/04/2022 12:45

Yup, 10 yo has had, I made sure he was OK with that. He'd had COVID 3 months before (and you're supposed to wait that long before getting jab). Of course it was very mild and likely would be in future, but apparently the vaccine does lower the risk of long COVID significantly, and given my mother has had CFS/ME most of my life I'm keen on lowering the risk of a chronic fatiguing illness.

JoeGoldberg · 28/04/2022 12:46

No

tomatoandherbs · 28/04/2022 12:48

huge pro vaccer here
When it came to me
NOT my children

unless it impedes on foreign travel, then my children will be first in line for it!!

OfstedOffred · 28/04/2022 12:50

Feels like a waste of time and money for my 5 year old tbh. We've all already had it, and I wonder if he would actually be more effectively protected by the virus circulating among school aged kids etc

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 28/04/2022 12:52

I was going to start a similar thread as we got DD's (5) letter this morning.

One the one hand: I am pro-vax usually and she has had everything

But.... These jabs are all for something that could make her seriously ill or could kill.
She hasn't had vaccines for things like chicken pox and I wouldn't give her one for this.
She has had covid and was absolutely fine.

I'm not sure what I am going to to.

oldwhyno · 28/04/2022 12:53

Currently not bothering for 7 and 10yr old.

Don't really see the point. They've had it and didn't show any symptoms, and widespread vaccination didn't really seem to be limit transmission. Government doesn't really seem to be pushing it for young kids, so I assume it's just being made available for those that want it.

EatYourVegetables · 28/04/2022 12:54

Probably in the autumn, not now. Had Covid a few months ago.

tomatoandherbs · 28/04/2022 12:57

The “do it for the greater good” falls entirely on deaf ears when it comes to my children

i will do what is good for “them” in my opinion

PollyIndia · 28/04/2022 12:57

If I thought it would stop DS passing it on to my 81 year old dad, then yes definitely.
As it is, the jab seems to only stop serious illness but doesn't stop you catching or transmitting it, so I really don't see the point. He's never tested positive, and if he has had it, it's been a slightly hoarse voice that is his only symptom. It doesn't make sense to give him a vaccine that will have zero benefit to anyone.

KrisAkabusi · 28/04/2022 12:59

Yes. Both mine (11, 9) have had them.

Diditreallylookawful · 28/04/2022 13:00

Yes

TimeForGouter · 28/04/2022 13:00

Yes, both 6 and 8 year olds have had their first jabs. No side effects for either of them. 6 year old has never had covid. 8 year old was quite ill with it. That influenced my thinking, as did the fact that the country where a lot of my relatives live (none of whom I've obviously seen since pre 2020) has had quite stringent vaccination rules for children, as did the data coming out of that country, and others, where millions of children have been vaccinated with minimal side effects.

All that said I completely understand people choosing not to get it for their kids.

Utini · 28/04/2022 13:02

I don't think so for DD age 5, and I've given all the usual childhood vaccines as well as paying for chickenpox. It's very likely she was infected a few weeks ago, as DP and I both had it and made no effort to stay away from her. She had a bit of a sniffle but that was all.

In that age group, for the omicron strain, the vaccine has a pretty negligible effect on catching it - something like 12% effective if I remember rightly.

It protects fairly well against severe disease, but that's quite unlikely in young children anyway, and I expect natural immunity will provide similar protection in future against severe disease.

Lollipop858 · 28/04/2022 13:04

Nope. I don’t give them the flu jab either.

Dontevenstart · 28/04/2022 13:28

Here we go.

“I’m not an antivaxxer but…”

RelativePitch · 28/04/2022 13:29

2 DCs, 12 and 10. No to covid vaccine and no to flu. They've had every other vaccine. I'm triple jabbed for Covid as are all the other adults in our lives. They can choose when they are older. FWIW, DC12 has had covid twice, DC10 once. They were fine.

Phos · 28/04/2022 13:33

Not at this point for my 5 year old. Don't need it for any planned travel. If she's ever had covid at all it was 100% asymptomatic. Neither me nor her got it when DH had omicron and we didn't bother distancing from him at all whilst he was positive.

skgnome · 28/04/2022 13:39

My 11yo asked to have it before it was offered to under 12s
even when all her class, and everyone else in the household had covid she never caught it… or if she did she never had any symptoms and keep testing negative…
didn’t crossed my mind not to

FourTeaFallOut · 28/04/2022 13:39

Dontevenstart · 28/04/2022 13:28

Here we go.

“I’m not an antivaxxer but…”

Yeah, I think we are all a bit beyond building an identity around how we make medical decisions for our children, aren't we? It seems unnecessarily antagonistic.
