I was offered £80 per day to be a long term Teaching Assistant for a school. Same days and hours as permanent staff, until the end of the year.
After umbrella fees, the wages are £10.10 an hour equivalent. However, this is supposed to include rolled up holiday pay, so the wage is essentially minimum wage.
Holiday pay is 12.07% statutory, which is nowhere near the equivalent of what somebody on paid annual leave would earn.
Therefore, you end up (or I did) seeking other work during school holidays to avoid living on £600-800 net for months when there are school holidays, and really getting much of a holiday.
You lose the flexibility of supply as you're not really expected to take time off during term, only the school holidays where you end up working anyway.
True you can just leave immediately if the role doesn't suit you, but otherwise I see absolutely zero benefit.
One school wouldn't give me a fob as I wasn't permanent staff, so I had to stand at various doors every time until somebody turned up.
Does anyone else do a role like this and find it beneficial?
