I recently discovered that to be employed as a grad where I work you need an A at A level maths.

I didn't even get an A but am head of the analytics team!

We want to get more women involved.. so question...

Were you good at maths but maybe didn't take A level?

I'm a bit baffled by the comment about getting more women involved. Are we assuming women don't/didn't take Maths?

No assumptions needed - statistics show very few women take maths beyond GCSE and even fewer go on to do anything maths-related at university.

oh you maths types ... always using stats to support your argument

I did maths A level (and a year of Further Maths A level) and physics because I enjoyed them (and hated essay writing!). That was 34 years ago. I went to an all girls school which I think helped but there was still only one small class doing maths. My DS’s school has 100 boys doing maths A level, a lot with further maths, that’s 50% of the year.

Yep I didn't do A level maths but did an Open University Certificate in maths when I was about 30. It's roughly equivalent to first year University level. It does sound like a strange requirement.
