To think there must be a job out there suitable for my shy personality?

I work as a technical writer, whenever you look up 'jobs for shy people', it's always listed. But it involves presenting to clients and lots of contact with clients and I hate it.

I'm intelligent, detail orientated, meticulous, a hard worker but SHY. I'll always be shy and I'm sick of having go fight it all the time. I feel so burnt out from work, and having to try and act confident.

AIBU to think there must be a career out there somewhere that would suit me :(

If you're a technical writer, then what about freelance copywriting and proofreading? I imagine you wouldn't earn as much as you do now though.

I was going to suggest copywriting, but not freelance. We are a small team and have one or two Teams meetings a day but it is just the same 6 people, and no-one has to present anything. One of our team is very introverted, so doesn't say much during meetings but that's fine.

It sounds like you are very introverted rather than just shy BTW.

As others have said there are some actuary jobs that might work, but also lots that require presenting to clients or at the very least presenting internally. You also need to go through the exams so not necessarily an easy option!

No not easy at all but worth the study.

What steps have you taken to overcome your shyness / dislike of presentations and zoom?

Because tbh most decent office based (or wfh) jobs will have an element of presenting/ zoom etc.

If it were me, I'd think "why should I leave a job I like and I'm good at because of this one aspect", and try and work on it. Your attitude seems to be "I'm shy I'm always going to be shy" but actually many people can and do become comfortable with aspects of work that they're not naturally good at.

Could it be because you're clearly very good at certain aspects of your job, you're used to being "naturally good" at them? Everyone has aspects of their job that they find really challenging - or if they don't they tend to find their jobs boring and dull!!!

Alternatively, you could look at completely different jobs where you'll never have to present. Dog walker, landscape gardener, something outside, factory etc, but this would be much lower paid...
