I’m a teacher. Want to do something nice…..

Please help me come up with ideas! I’m leaving my current job and going on maternity and not returning (Kids all know this).

I want to do something nice for my form class who are 13-14 year olds. I cannot think clearly right now. Been to so many shops today looking for big tubs of chocolates, but cannot find anything. Must be egg and nut free as some children in class have allergies to eggs and nuts, so choices are limited. Any ideas?

I just thought maybe I can bring in capri suns or some other juice and some biscuits etc. this will be in morning registration so don’t want to give them too much sugar! I will probably have around 20 minutes with them.

Ice lollies?

That's a lovely thing to do.
How about a big bag of haribo fun size bags.

If you know the kids well, how about a fortune cookie each too. You could let them choose one each and then they could read them and keep the message from you.

Good luck with your new baby when it comes!

What about a little brunch buffet? So strawberries, grapes, pancakes/brioche/croissants and a tub of biscoff or other nut free spread? Orange/apple juice with little cute cups and plates (recyclable disposable) and make the serving table a bit fancy. I have done similar with similar age classes and it always goes down well, isn't expensive and tbh I think they most appreciate the effort!

I like the brunch buffet idea. Also could you print each of them a positive message for future or little note with one of their strengths on it.

I’d write them each a little card about a special memory you have about them. Then I’d probably bring in cakes, gluten free and vegan ones as well to cover all bases.

I wouldn't worry about a bit of sugar. Biscuits and juice or hot chocolate if you can manage the logistics. Hobnobs and party rings and oreos are vegan and no nuts if that helps. My dd is always impressed with the teacher that has biscuits for reading sessions despite having free access to biscuits at home!

Do you have any Coeliacs? My child is struggling to come to terms with this auto-immune disease and is always left out at celebrations.

Different age group but a few years back for a work thing in a call centre I took in the individual jelly pots, squirty cream and sprinkles. Went down way better than cake or biscuits which I'd taken in before. Think it was the novelty factor.

Maltesers (I’m thinking they are egg and nut free??).
Haribo type sweets.

CrowAndArrow · 25/04/2022 22:57

My old teacher wrote a post card to each of us. Although at the time is didn't feel special...as I grew it meant a lot. That was 35 years ago.

Bring sweets!

I always take a photo of my Year 11s and make postcards with us all on. A nice reminder of the class. I write a little note on the back.
