Stress, seizure or something else

Been feeling a bit off for a few weeks, but put it down to having Covid around a month ago.

However sat at my desk today and started to feel really odd, like having a strong sense of deja-vu and sudden extreme nausea. It passed within about a minute, but of course have been into Google and looked it up - and almost every result mentions epilepsy.

If course I’m trying to book a GP appointment (no luck just yet) but has anyone else experienced this and know what it is

Apologies know this isn’t really an AIBU but am a bit worried and posting for traffic if I’m honest.

Doesn't sound like a typical epileptic seizure. Could have been low blood sugar or anxiety?

LemonDrizzleSlice · 25/04/2022 21:45

If that happened to me I would assume low blood sugar or low blood pressure.

KangarooKenny · 25/04/2022 21:46

Sounds like an anxiety attack.

Gilesgoesformiles · 25/04/2022 21:48

Sounds like anxiety - a weird doomy feeling that something isn’t right with the world…like in a film

To me it sounds very much like a panic attack - as someone who has had many of them. Have you been stressed or anxious recently? Sometimes a panic attack can happen completely without warning and for no apparent reason. I wouldn't jump immediately to seizure. But good idea to get a GP appointment.

It could be either - temporal lobe seizures vary but can consist of intense nausea and/or deja vu, but these symptoms can also be linked to anxiety, and if you’re feeling stressed at the moment that’s probably the more likely cause. As a one-off it’s not something that would worry me, but if it continues to happen then it’s worth getting checked out. No one on here can say whether it was a seizure or anxiety. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

It’s likely anxiety, low blood sugar or you’re just feeling off. I’ve been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy for years now and had an EEG which confirmed what was wrong. You are describing what sounds like it could be an absence seizure however you’ll need to have a lot more occurrences of this before the GP cares tbh (I never go to my GP regarding my epilepsy, only my neurologist or epilepsy nurse, my GP is useless and wouldn’t touch my epilepsy with a barge pole).

I didn’t even realise I had epilepsy until I had a bad seizure where I hit the back of my head and collapsed a few years ago and was subsequently diagnosed with it following hospital appointments and then referral to a neurologist. I was having absence seizures frequently in my late teens and was always told by the GP it was anxiety (I had no inkling I had epilepsy or absence seizures at the time).

Tbh I’d just keep an eye out on how you’re feeling over the next few weeks, if it becomes a regular thing then obviously go to the GP but it is likely just a wave of heavy anxiety or low blood sugar like PP have said. Avoid googling things too much.

Thanks everyone. I realised a bit later that I have had the same thing once before - about maybe six months ago - again that was after being unwell - and I didn’t really take notice so maybe it is a low blood sugar thing.

I tend to try and avoid dr Google but it was just such an odd thing. I’m not sure about the panic attack thing but I am stressed at the moment.
