Patronising response - some us know full well how transfer pricing works and also oppose it - not least on the basis that companies like Amazon manage to pay a lot more corporate tax in some countries - notably the USA.

Lol - doesn’t look like you do understand how transfer pricing works. You have absolutely no idea how much corporate tax Amazon pays (as it’s not public information) in the UK. However you would expect it to pay more tax in the US as that’s where it is headquartered and where it will carry on more business. It’s entirely consistent with tp rules and beps etc that it will pay more tax there.

Villagewaspbyke · 25/04/2022 10:05

And what do you mean anyway that you don’t agree with transfer pricing rules? Please explain your position.

Yes, ‘some of us’ do. However, after assessing the evidence base - past threads about tax and fiscal policy - I’ve concluded that the majority of people don’t. it’s a combination of poor knowledge, lack of logic and, often, selfishness: they don’t want to pay more tax, no. Everyone else can.

I’m surmising that the OP is in that category, since she wants to overthrow the government but also make them ‘sort out the cost of living crisis’ and ‘sort out the NHS’. From their gulag, presumably. That’s easier to contemplate than a load of pound shop Che Guevaras being put in charge of the economy.

tiledo · 25/04/2022 10:10

At least in france the government protected them from the fuel price rises. Ours chose to hang us all out to dry.

That's because the French would protest as opposed to blaming it on immigrants or the work shy!

Not really, I don't have the faith in "the people" you seem to. How do you think this festering shitpit of a government got thr gig in the first place?

You can’t trust people - people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis

i have come to terms with the fact that Coldplay are great. I used to sneer at them too but now I’m told old to worry about being cool.

the nazis is something else though. Jew here so not changing my mind on them!

To want a people's revolution

We have one of those every five years.

I want the govt to sort out the increased cost of living, the ridiculous state of the NHS and Camhs etc.

Sooo... lower taxes (or subsidise stuff) but also fund public services more?

I don't disagree that the Tories have done a shit job over the last decade and the currnet PM is awful but the cost of living crisis is not their fault and, no matter how awful BJ, is a Lenin/Mussolini/Castro/Pol Pot style revolutionary leader would be worse.

Sorry, I’m being facetious - it’s a quote from Peep Show, it just came into my mind when I read your message

I don't agree with Amazon's (and others) legal practise of shifting profits made here to falsely appear in Luxembourg in a loss-making subsidiary.

Anyone can see it's not reality - just a device for pretending they made profits somewhere else in order to dodge as much corporate tax as possible.
We could prevent that if we wanted to, but we don't.
Although public info isn't fully available, there's some pretty good analysis -
here for example

balalake · 25/04/2022 15:58

This is Britain. People will tut and moan and complain, but then come election time, not vote for any kind of real change. If they vote at all.

Iamthewombat · 25/04/2022 16:00

I think that it’s really funny that you have spent the last six hours frantically researching transfer pricing (which I’m not convinced that you understand either) so that you can respond to @Villagewaspbyke ’s question and attempt to justify why you “don’t agree with” it.

iklboo · 25/04/2022 16:09

Is this what you have in mind? I don't suit berets.

I’m too lazy

Pootles34 · 25/04/2022 17:13

'The people' vote Tory and like Ed Sheeran. I'm out.

DonNotKeith · 25/04/2022 17:40

A fair society can work, even Richard Nixon tried it successfully:
"From a Canadian city that once completely eradicated poverty, to Richard Nixon's near implementation of a basic income for millions of Americans, Bregman takes us on a journey through history, beyond the traditional left-right divides, as he introduces ideas whose time has come"
for Realists: And How We Can Get There www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MQRQG22/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_Y5CXM5ME5HQNC78HK9HA Utopia for Realists: And How We Can Get There www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MQRQG22/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_Y5CXM5ME5HQNC78HK9HA
But we won't do it because the British are too feeble and forelock tugging.

Shame because it even eradicated domestic violence in the study because women were able to leave abusive men.

Valeriekat · 26/04/2022 21:59

You sound about 16 years old.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 26/04/2022 22:52

Oh dear, someone needs to do a little history reading.

Spoiler Alert: a lot of people die, a new group of assholes take over, life gets worse for the common folk

in all seriousness, read this book. www.amazon.co.uk/Whisperers-Private-Stalins-September-Paperback/dp/B0161TDYFQ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3ELK258NKKUKL&keywords=The+Whisperers%3A+Private+Life+in+Stalin%27s+Russia&qid=1651009678&sprefix=the+whisperers+private+life+in+stalin+s+russia+%2Caps%2C364&sr=8-2

It’s a great true account of revolution from the perspective of the common persons view.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/04/2022 22:56

If we all stand together we have a chance. The majority of us want the same”

if that’s so, why did the conservatives win by a landslide last time?

(I didn’t vote for them)
